Hey friends… I live in Nashville. I prepped as well as I could for this ice storm. Truly. I have my kids and my pets with me so I didn’t take an iota of the situation without great concern beforehand. That said, I’ve been without power since Sunday morning. I’ve had a multitude of large trees and limbs fall in my yard (luckily no structural damage). It honestly sounded like mini explosions as the actual scene unfolded, trees crashing as they succumbed to the weight of the ice. Very eerie. We toughed it out the first night, feeding the fireplace with wood over the course of 14 hours until we reached the point that we ran out. The girls took it like true champs. I will say, as a mom, it was a lot. I kept my cool but to say it was stressful is an understatement. We used sleeping bags in the living room and curtained off doorways leading in. Candles, oil lamps, and a mini generator (safe for indoors) kept us online and abridged of news around town. I watched a gazillion videos about simple hacks to help in the midst of blackouts in frigid temps. Many kudos for the greatness of kind and wise folks that shared tips and tricks. I could see my breath in the house so yesterday afternoon we had to abandon ship and are SO fortunate to stay in a warm, safe house with power. I’ve been filled with gratitude within my heart. The Universe works in mysterious ways whereas I’ve unlocked a new level of resilience and humility about life’s luxuries. I take nothing for granted. I don’t know when we’ll get power back but all that said, I am keeping ALL of us in the midst of these circumstances in my heart, wishing safety and comfort. Many many have poo-pood on the significance of what’s happened in my city, which bums me out. But hey, it is what it is. For a city (and state) that experiences multiple tornadoes each season, I will say that I’m incredibly grateful for the power & emergency crews that spend countless hours restoring homes, neighborhoods, and counties with the necessities to get back on our feet. To those of you that have suffered loss… including ALL of the cities across the map regarding the storm… my empathy and thoughts are with you ❤️ Stay safe… stay warm
