I am not rambling and I originally pointed out that all the early followers of Jesus, who were Israelites, were distinguished from the main stream Judaism by first being called Christian (by outsiders) in the gentile city of Antioch, where they would have mostly spoken Greek. The reason for this was that the disciples believed Jesus was the Messiah, which is Christ in Greek. So, my point still stands. Mary knew that Jesus was the Messiah. She still continued to support his Apostles and other followers after the ascension, so she clearly approved of their teaching concerning him. Thus, Mary was a Christian. After all, your definition of her as Muslim is purely because she said she was as servant of God, which is what you say is the meaning of Muslim. Incidentally, from that perspective, Jesus was also a Christian because he believed that he was the Messiah (Christ) and in fact he still is.

Her son was also human. That is the mystery of the incarnation. That the Word of God became flesh so he could live a human life and fulfil the rest of God's plan for humanity in his death and resurrection, which he had predicted and was the proof he was truly the Messiah promised by God as foretold by the Prophets. Mary knew he was special because of what the angel told her. Perhaps at first she didn't understand quite how special but she did say this after her encounter with her cousin Elizabeth confirmed that everything the angel had said was true: "My soul doth magnify the Lord And my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour For he has been mindful of the humble state of his handmaiden For, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things Holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him From generation to generation." Even the Quran would seem to agree that Mary was unique among women and she was truly blessed by God to have been chosen as the mother of Jesus. Once again, I ask, what does the title Messiah mean to you?
