Are you a nice leader or a kind leader? In this episode of the Liberty Ventures Podcast, our CEO @amccobin sits down with @lefranc to discuss the difference between nice and kind leadership, and why one builds teams while the other destroys them . A nice leader seeks approval from everyone around them. So they avoid hard conversations. They won't hold people accountable because they want to be liked. A kind leader does something different: -They treat people with respect and dignity. -They hold people accountable to results. -They separate feelings from performance. -Nice leadership is self-destructive. It protects the leader's ego at the expense of the team. -Kind leadership builds loyalty, trust, and respect. People don't respect leaders who let them get away with poor performance. They respect leaders who care enough to tell them the truth. A must-listen for any leader who wants to earn real trust and loyalty. Full episode available here: youtu.be/YWZSzjsOwhE

We kicked off the Necker Island Summit the only way that made sense — on a boat, headed somewhere most people will never go, with a group of investors, founders, and executives who chose to spend their week thinking differently.Tuesday night set the tone. Cocktails and connections at the Opening Ceremony, dressed in red, white, and blue — a nod to 250 years of the American experiment. Then a candlelit dinner on The Great House Southern Terrace, followed by a conversation with Kelsey Grammer on capitalism, freedom, and what it means to build something that lasts. The week had just started. The bar was already high.📅 Necker Island Summit returns May 22–25, 2027. Save the date and express your interest now: share.hsforms.com/10wx4VAEmT0Orn…

Last week, our CEO, @amccobin, joined a dialogue at the Vatican hosted by the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See on AI and the future of work. Alongside business leaders, diplomats, Vatican officials, and AI representatives, the conversation focused on a critical question: What role will business leaders play in shaping the future of work? Over 3 days, Principled Business helped bring a pro-capitalism perspective into discussions where political, academic, and religious voices were already heavily represented. The pressure to frame AI through the lens of regulation and criticism of capitalism is strong. Business leaders needed to be in the room. Leaders such as Luke Nosek, Greg Mauro, and Andrew Lane joined the dialogue alongside Ambassador Burch and the Embassy team, who organized the convening. Leaders connected to the Principled Business network brought a perspective grounded in: * Respect for individual agency * The higher purpose of business * Mutual collaboration * Free enterprise and private property These conversations matter because the institutions shaping the future of AI and work are listening closely to the voices involved. Principled Business exists to ensure principled business leaders are part of those conversations. for more, link here: principledbusiness.org/breakthrough-b…

What does it look like to build a company with a real mission? Commenda has one of the clearest answers we've seen: "We are not just building software — we are building the foundation for a more open, connected, and economically free world." They're driving the global cost of doing business toward zero by making it as easy to operate a business anywhere on earth as it is to deploy a server. That's what principled capitalism looks like in practice. Proud to have @spenceraviav, CEO & Co-Founder of Commenda, as a member of the Liberty Ventures network. This is exactly the kind of founder we want in our corner. Want to meet founders like Spencer? Apply to join Liberty Ventures. Link here: libertyventuresnetwork.com

Supply Pay is now harva. And they just raised $113M to build the operating system for the international perishable goods industry. The problem they are solving is real: . Fresh produce trade runs on spreadsheets, paper, and systems from the 90s . Distributors and importers face long cash conversion cycles, regulatory complexity, and disconnected tools . The domestic perishables wholesale market is $109B. The global industry exceeds $1T. harva's platform solves this with three core products: . AI-native ERP with real-time inventory management and natural language workflows . Embedded invoice financing to address cash flow pressure . Built-in lot-level traceability for FSMA compliance from day one Proud to have founders like William Steele in the Liberty Ventures Network. Congratulations William! Most people think more money equals a better life. @johnwcoleman has worked with wealthy families for years. He knows that is not always true. John is the co-CEO and Managing Partner at Sovereign’s Capital and author of Good Money. He joined Alexander McCobin @amccobin, CEO of Liberty Ventures, to talk about what money actually does to people, families, and companies. Here is what stood out: Money is a tool. It is not the goal. -Great cultures outperform poor cultures, financially and personally. -Purpose drives long-term results in business and in life. -Companies that support their employees build loyalty that no salary alone creates. One idea from John that changes how you think about wealth: Set a financial finish line. Decide what lifestyle you want for yourself and your family. Once you reach it, stop accumulating for yourself. Put every dollar beyond that toward meaningful investment, giving, and impact. Full episode is live now. Link here: youtu.be/OR7SgzpO650

'Ideas don't fail businesses. Businesses fail ideas.' Nancey Tsai, angel investor Most operators get this backwards. When a startup goes under, the post-mortem usually reaches for the idea — wrong market, wrong moment, too early. That's the easy story. It's also usually wrong. The hard truth: most failed startups had a workable idea. They didn't have an executable business. The idea wasn't the problem. The execution around it was — margin, cash, hiring, org design, the unglamorous stuff that doesn't fit on a slide. The investors who do well at the early stage know which one they're underwriting. Not 'is this idea good.' But 'can this team execute against this idea, in this market, with this much capital, before the runway breaks.' Last week in Atlanta, we brought together a room of CEOs, founders, and senior executives for the Liberty Ventures Executive Summit. @lefranc opened with fear and integrity in times of change. Danielle Laughlin made the case for ethics over ego. Colin Bowman walked the room through AI as a real competitive advantage. @DavidSimnick and @curtishite shared the practical, unglamorous lessons of scaling past $100M. John Coleman, @brandonthatton, and Eldar Souliaev shared insights on how to build a company with principles. @Michaeldorf closed the day with what it actually takes to build a company that outlasts the moment you're in. This is what Liberty Ventures builds — not networking events, but spaces where serious operators have the conversations that actually move things forward. Thank you to our partners and sponsors for helping us make this summit possible. The CPA Dude, @SAGE_Business, @Prialto  Our summits are a member benefit. If you're a CEO, founder, or senior executive who wants access to this community on a quarterly basis — the peer sessions, the speakers, and the people in that room — membership is where it starts. principledbusiness.org/membership

"If you care about people, you join the Peace Corps. If you care about money, you go into corporate America." Jason Syversen (@JSyversen) has heard that framing his whole life. And he's spent his career proving it wrong. Jason grew up in rural Maine, built and sold Siege Technologies, and then did something most founders don't — donated the proceeds to charity and set up a foundation to keep doing it. In the latest issue of Capitalists for Capitalism, he makes the case that the real middle ground isn't a compromise. It's entrepreneurship itself. Free markets and caring about people aren't in tension. For the best operators, they're the same thing. Worth a read — capitalistsforcapitalism.com

Curtis Hite, CEO and Chairman of Improving, will be joining us as a speaker for the Principled Business Delegation at ARC this June 23-25 in London. Curtis co-founded Improving in 2007 and has grown it into a $250M+ software consulting and IT services firm with more than 1,500 employees across 16 offices. What makes his story particularly relevant for this room is that he didn't scale by cutting corners or compromising culture. Improving has been recognized repeatedly as one of the best workplaces in Texas, landed on the Inc. 500/5000, and built a reputation as a company where principled leadership and serious growth reinforce each other. Curtis is also a board member of Conscious Capitalism and a sought-after speaker on building trust, scaling culture, and what it actually takes to lead a thriving company over the long haul. If you want to join this group, sign up here: principledbusiness.org/arc-delegation
