On World Press Freedom Day, Gaza journalists protested reporting dangers.
Over 260 journalists have been killed in Gaza since Oct 2023; at least 130 were killed worldwide last year, many unpunished. The UN warns press freedom is in steep decline.

@AJEnglish Malec almost said "kitchen table" instead of "negotiating table" tripped up his words. To be fair allot of wars begin at the kitchen table

This is a good move—it buys us time. It’s essential that we use it wisely.
Acknowledge that under current conditions, there are no military solutions and a true settlement is unlikely.
Follow the Reagan-in-’84 model: pull our forces out of the region, let our Gulf allies negotiate to reopen the SOH, and refocus on the issues at home and winning the next election, like Reagan did.
This is the opposite of what Israel wants us to do. To prevent Israel from pulling us deeper into this war, we must impose real restraint by limiting military aid to Israel.
The escalation game is a losing hand. Dump it and walk away.

The Financial Times is reporting something that should be front-page news everywhere.
Pete Hegseth didn’t just help design the Iran war. He championed it publicly, cheered it on, and sold it to the American people. And according to the Financial Times, while his own department was in the final stages of preparing to launch it, his broker at Morgan Stanley was attempting to make a multimillion-dollar investment in the defense companies that build the weapons we used to fight it.
The investment didn’t ultimately go through, but only because the fund wasn’t yet available on Morgan Stanley’s platform. Not because anyone stopped it.
If these reports are accurate, the Secretary of Defense was positioned to profit from a war he helped start, using information no private investor could ever have. That is a profound betrayal of every service member he commands, and of every American who trusted this Administration with their national security.
No one should be cashing in on privileged information while lives and national security are on the line.

Tasnim News Agency, a semi-official news agency in #Iran affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (#IRGC), said an informed source confirmed that Iran did not issue any evacuation orders for Doha or its media outlets. The source told the agency, “Contrary to the false rumors circulating on the internet, Iran did not issue any evacuation warning for #Doha and Qatari media.”
The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting news agency also apologised on its Telegram page for publishing a post claiming an evacuation warning had been issued for the #AlJazeera Media Network offices in Doha, denying the information. IRIB said the information was quoted from internal sources and was removed immediately due to the lack of confirmation from official or informed sources.

I have sat through many meetings with Egyptian policymakers who cast the Haftar family as a bulwark against instability on Egypt’s western border, while dismissing the need for meaningful LAAF reform.
Deeply ironic that Cairo must now implore the very actors it enabled to stop conduct that directly undermines Egypt’s national security through support to the RSF.
