@TuurDemeester Eric's tweet is very "kort door den bocht". Of course you can run it without GPU, but it's awfully slow. You need to wait 1 min to have the answer for "how many R's are there in strawberry?". Running on GPU gives you an instant answer 🤷♀️
It's like BTC mining on GPU <> ASICs.

I was expecting something like this any day now. It means the genie is fully out of the bottle; open source wins again. Implications: The business models of OpenAI and every company like it are busted. There's no moat anymore. This is a no-GPU build. Which means Nvidia's license to print money just expired. Everybody who thought they were accomplishing anything by conditioning LLM not to perform wrongthink is about to find out what happens when you try to hold back the tide, because the full power of distributed weaponized autism is about to be unleashed on that problem. I have been keeping mostly quiet about AI, but seriously. How could anybody not see this coming?

@BorisBartlog @moodyruin @esrtweet That's the big difference. You can run without GPU, but it's so slow that you will not keep using it. Look at the video and compare that to the real-time answers you get when you use the system on GPU.

@moodyruin @esrtweet Apparently the CPU can do all the processing (weights are *all* in memory ... this build requires 768GB RAM!). It's just slower, 6-8 tokens per second.
