I follow with concern the war in #Ukraine, which is experiencing a sharp intensification in these days. I wish to express my closeness to all those suffering due to recent attacks carried out even against civilians. War does not solve problems but worsens them. It does not create security but multiplies suffering and hatred. Where missiles and drones fall, hopes also fall; homes and places of prayer are destroyed, and innocent lives are broken. This week, I prepared a special letter addressed to the President of the United States and to Congress. And yesterday, the letter was officially delivered to the institutions in Washington. It is quite rare for the leader of another state to address both the President and Congress of the United States simultaneously with a letter. But the situation now requires action, swift and effective action. It is important that America hear Ukraine. We understand that much of the world’s attention is currently focused on the war in Iran. But the war here in Europe must also be brought to an end – a very bloody war that is already in its fifth year at full scale. The sooner we are able to provide greater protection against ballistic threats, the sooner we will be able to make diplomacy work. As long as Russia continues to rely on missiles, its interest in diplomacy is not real. We must correct this. And we can do so only together with America. After all the prayers for a peaceful world, God finally answered and gave us YOU. Yes, I'd love it if our leaders could start over. Same planet, new rules. Instead of wars, men sit down and accept majority as law. If 51% say Ukraine needs to give up it's Baltic Sea access so the war could end then it happens. No arguing about it. If they refuse, the entire Planet cuts them off economically. Same results the other way around. The world doesn't need war. It's a caveman concept. If the United Nations has one smart brain cell in their organization, thats how they would run things. Now you want to go interplanetary. Just a couple of ideas. Build the moon base to store resources en mass and get a repetitive delivery process set up. Have 12 hour turn arounds for the deliveries an keep safety 100. Once your process is flawless, expand. Can we mine the moon, create a sustainable process for water recycling, oxygen, ect. Elon there is no doubt in my mind you can accomplish anything you want but you must MUST....take care of you. Family, can't get time back. You will get us to Mars. You WILL be credited for making us a multiplanetary species. Once there, make war unnecessary. It's the ONLY WAY we don't make ourselves extinct.

At some point, we have to stop calling it the world’s most powerful military.
That label has survived entirely on budget figures and hardware counts, not outcomes. By that logic you could call a football club the world’s best based on shirt sales and stadium size. At some point someone has to ask when they last won a match.
The U.S. hasn’t won a war in more than thirty years. Not a close call. Not bad luck. Thirty years of the most expensive military force ever assembled failing to achieve its stated objectives, repeatedly, across different theaters, different enemies, different administrations.
A military that cannot win is not the most powerful military. It is the most expensive one. Those are not the same thing, and the conflation has been extraordinarily useful to everyone except the taxpayer.
Power, in the end, is the ability to impose your will. A force that cannot decide outcomes is not powerful.

Mostly true. What matters is securing the long-term future of consciousness, both on Earth and other heavenly bodies.
We cannot just focus on Earth, because there are irreducible external (eg massive meteor) and internal (eg global nuclear war) cataclysmic risks.
The Moon is faster to make self-growing, but is more susceptible to problems on Earth. Mars will take longer to make self-growing, because it is so hard to reach, but is more secure from Earth disasters for that same reason.
Both the Moon and Mars should have self-growing civilizations. Making this happen is the prime directive of SpaceX.
