@hoffridder @NyxXeres I don’t think that’s true, but even if it is, the ecosystem has been written across decades by many different parties that do not necessarily share a design philosophy or ensure intuitive integration that people looking to migrate are looking for.

@AmadeusK525 @NyxXeres @hoffridder Popularize the…. kernel? What you are saying doesn’t even make sense. Is ChromeOS a “distro” that’s “popularizing Linux”? Is android? I doubt there is even one major contributor to the kernel who would consider video gamer palatability a metric of success

@NyxXeres @hoffridder Linux kernel developers are not going to be largely concerned with things like “giving the base users an easy way to do their daily tasks”, as they shouldn’t be

@NyxXeres @hoffridder Windows is a product that includes a desktop environment and a host of pre-installed software defined in terms of a kernel and systems level APIs. Linux is just a kernel and there is no single software stack that represents “the Linux desktop”.

@hoffridder @NyxXeres “Distro” is already a communication mistake and an arbitrary line as far as it concerns casual users (non systems programmers)

@hoffridder @NyxXeres I think the current problem is demonstrated by that poster. Linux is a kernel and what would it even mean for it to have UI/UX problems? I don’t think normies realize they’ve probably never even seen a Linux error message or log or whatever

Great repository names are short and memorable. Need inspiration? How about  absurdly-long-name-in-a-verbose-style-that-no-one-ever-uses-and-definitely-has-no-relation-to-the-project-you-are-making-a-repository-for?

@theunlicense @bendiken has unlicense.org been down lately intentionally or is there a problem? (or is it just me?) If the project has been abandoned it would be nice for that to be stated explicitly

@Idonbelonghere @__phantomderp makes sense to me if you think about it as a "pointer to an unknown type". adding one being the immediate next address is all that can be done without type information. allows (void *) to have standardized meaning as "generic address pointer"

I want to have sized arrays like unsigned char arr[..]; that store their own size. But for allocation functions with a void* pointer return, I'd have to use typed arrays like above which would require explicit casting. Is it time to standardize GCC void* extension behavior?

@visionsjpg Prototypes are here, will build one very soon and then 2-3 weeks to receive them. The 3-in-1 will cost quite a bit like $90 or more because of the $30 flash chip and the work involved to test all 3 banks

After dark PCBs are nice but when playing Crystal Clear, I'd prefer a clear PCB 😄. Thanks to @b_2_3_n for the idea and shell modification

The companies distributing these cards (and the idiots who believe them) claim that the card only ever sends a random, encrypted code which cannot be used to track you. This is provably false. Here not only did I get a UID that doesn't change but I also got the full card number!

midnight schizo-posting: anti-theft gates can be used to digitally fingerprint people based on the RFID cards they carry in their wallet. This would allow the operators to tell when you enter/leave what you bought, etc.

I've been searching for resources on old (most Unix) plain text format conventions that don't use any markup but it's been surprisingly fruitless. This file doesn't seem to be related to Window's INI-based setup format so was just wondering if there's a spec for this format.
