A reminder: People don’t have to be drug-free to "deserve" housing. They don’t have to be drug-free to access healthcare. They don’t have to be drug-free to be treated with kindness. Human rights aren’t something you “earn.”

Conservative drug policy across Canada punches down. We want total abstinence but some aren't ready. Just because someone isn't ready to make a change doesn't mean they deserve to die. Harm reduction isn't a dirty word. It's a key part of healthcare. cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…

We're fine with supervised consumption sites for alcohol - called bars - who call 911 if someone passes out - but if someone's using drugs - they should do it in an alley, school park or Tim's bathroom. Come any night to ER - alcohol is the main wrecking ball. cbc.ca/news/canada/to…

What a debacle Alberta ... Closing supervised consumption sites doesn’t stop drug use, it just pushes it out of sight and into more dangerous places. It means more people using alone in alleys, bathrooms, coffee shops, anywhere but where help exists. And with a toxic, unpredictable drug supply, that shift isn’t neutral… it’s deadly. This isn’t policy. It’s a death sentence.

I’m alive because I was brought back to life at a supervised consumption sites. Without them: No recovery. No kids. No life. The drug supply today is even more toxic. Closing these sites doesn’t stop drug use, it stops people from surviving it. cbc.ca/news/canada/ot…

Why is the Premier of Ontario so laser focused on getting alcohol into as many people in as many places as possible? We have so many very pressing needs in Ontario… increased access to alcohol is simply not the priority he makes it out to be.

Doctors like me agree with Premier Wynne. Closing safe use sites closes the door on those who we hope will achieve abstinence but are not ready today. Just because you are not ready doesn’t mean you deserve to die. @Kathleen_Wynne

Safe consumption sites are effective at reducing disease transmission, reduce overdose deaths, reduce public drug use, reduce strain on emergency services and healthcare system, and save millions in healthcare costs.

NEW: Ontario formally announces plans to wind down provincial funding for 7 remaining supervised drug-use sites - two in Toronto, two in Ottawa and one site each in Niagara, Peterborough and London. Will be replaced with Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub.

Doug Ford says supervised consumption sites “enable addiction.” But bars and liquor stores are fine? Btw, alcohol causes the most harm out of any drug on the planet, and the most addictions in our society. Supervised consumption sites save lives. Close them and the public becomes the consumption site.
Doug Ford@fordnation

Drug injection sites are a failed experiment that make communities unsafe and trap vulnerable people in addiction. Instead of standing by as addictions get worse, we’re funding treatment and lasting recovery while keeping our communities safe. news.ontario.ca/en/release/100…

Now's the right time to remind Ontario we were fed a pack of lies on the issue of crime due to supervised consumption sites. Ten years of Toronto Police data showed safe consumption sites were associated with stable or less crime. jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…

Doug Ford wants my neighbours to die. The toxic drug crisis has only worsened and now @fordnation thinks we need to remove life-saving services for people in neighbourhoods like Sandy Hill and Lowertown? There's absolutely no evidence for this. ottawa.citynews.ca/2026/03/16/ont…

I overdosed six times after relapsing from inpatient rehab. Supervised consumption sites are one of the reasons I’m alive today. Because of them: I recovered. I got married. My kids were born. Now I help others find recovery. Policies made in boardrooms will never understand what happens on the ground. Closing these sites won’t stop drug use. It will stop heartbeats. 💔
