Kim Kun-hee: “I didn’t even use the ‘Julie’ in ‘Julie’… My English name is Jenny”
First Lady Kim Kun-hee, wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, appeared as a witness in the trial regarding the so-called “Julie allegations” and asserted, “The Julie allegations make no sense.” Regarding her English name, she stated, “Everyone who knows me called me ‘Jenny.’”
During the trial of former Korea Elementary School Taekwondo Association President Ahn Hae-wook and others for violating the Public Official Election Act, held on the 20th at the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 34 (Presiding Judge Han Seong-jin), Mrs. Kim made this claim, stating, “I did not even use the ‘Julie’ in ‘Julie’ as a title.” Former President Ahn and others were indicted on charges of raising false allegations while appearing on the YouTube channel Open Empathy TV during the 2022 20th Presidential Election with the aim of causing former President Yoon’s defeat. Jeong Cheon-su, former CEO of Open Empathy TV, who reported their remarks in an interview format, was also indicted.
On this day, Mrs. Kim entered the courtroom supported by a police officer, wearing a gray suit, black horn-rimmed glasses, and a white mask. A partition was installed between the witness stand and former Chairman Ahn and others at the request of Mrs. Kim’s side, who stated, “I feel psychologically uneasy being in the same space as the perpetrator.” However, the prosecution’s request to switch the trial to a closed session was not accepted.

During the witness questioning, Mrs. Kim trembled and burst into nervous laughter. She stated, “I was shocked to hear the name ‘Julie,’ so I have been taking psychiatric medication for six years. If the defendants do not show genuine remorse, I want them punished.” Furthermore, in response to the defense’s question asking how her relationship with former President Yoon developed into a romantic one, she asked, “Do I have to answer?” but replied, “The ‘Project to Get Yoon Suk-yeol Married’ was executed, and we started dating because former Prosecutor General Jeong Sang-myeong said he ‘stakes his character on trusting former President Yoon.’”
A left-wing YouTuber in his 70s spread false information claiming he met Mrs. Kim Kun-hee at a hostess bar decades ago, but he was released without charges; however, Mrs. Kim is currently being intensively investigated regarding her past plastic surgeries, occupation, academic papers, and even stock holdings.
In Korea, there was an attempt to imprison all figures related to former President Yoon Suk-yeol based on a single remark by Lee Jae-myung and execute them under the May 18 Act, but it was fortunate that the constitutional amendment bill did not pass.
