We have hundreds of fish species named elegans, fasciatus, maculatus, etc.
Here's one of my favorites: an Amazonian electric fish called Steatogenys elegans, the elegant Steatogenys.

Reminds me of this nice principle in Mayr (4th ed.; 1949), which is about diagnostic features, not just naming. It helps explain why specific epithets are so common across genera. They're only relevant for differentiating within a genus.
