Grad students who wonder why there remains toxicity in academia and why DEI progress has stalled: One answer? Even when you have people that are well-intentioned/informed, it takes so much work to get academia to work on a basic level such that improvements are not prioritized.

My labmates and I spent an unforgettable week setting up a 1-ha plot in the cloud forest at Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. I’m grateful for doing fieldwork in such an amazing place, learning new techniques, and being part of the @junglebiology lab!
