Living trapped in your own body, constantly depending on people fulfill your needs , which they begrudgingly do with exasperated sighs , is quite literally a level of hell I wouldn't wish on anyone. Youre hungry, you cant get it yourself but nobody else wants to get you food. So you just lay there. Too hungry to sleep. Too disabled to go get food. Tethered to oxygen cords too short to reach, knowing you're a fall risk, knowing the kitchen is 7 stairs and 15 steps away but may as well be everest. And then asking and facing the backlash and the anger

Over the last few weeks I've watched with interest as the usual lines are trotted out by some in both Irish society and media. The typical "force NCHDs to stay in Ireland" line of thinking. It speaks so much about the person who suggests it.

I am definitely failing the 'God' bit of being a consultant and I am held accountable for everything, from the waiting room to the ED, to the wards, to the parking. Feel free to come walk a mile in my shoes if you want to address your fixed beliefs and biases.
