Fantastic to be back in the Lindstruments Ascension workshop after a great summer touring & building instruments in Scotland. On the workbench this week - can you guess?

It's time to begin sharing tidbits and wee insights into the making of "How've You Been?", ahead of its Scottish tour this August. Here's sun-up over Sisters Peak, Ascension Island. The tune is "How've You Been?", played on Lindsay System pipes. More about the tune itself later..

"...experiments with gas flames placed before the end of an open pipe to make the vibrations visible, shew that the...forms of vibration...correspond with those of a violin string, except that...their corners are rounded off." Hermann Helmholtz "On the Sensations of Tone" p.93

A render in CAD, of the stamp going on pipes made while I'm out here. The design combines a rising "wideawake" (sooty tern), with ash cone Sisters Peak in the background. The outline representing Sisters' is the pitch-pattern of a "wide-awake" vocalisation we recorded at Mars Bay

Designing tools this morning in CAD, to model possibilities for the Lindsay System. Here's an example - this tool produces a model of a prototype a fully tuneable chanter. This would allow rapid recalibration to match different scale temperaments & drone tunings ; #lindsaysystem

Thanks Ellen Prieschl for sending confirmation of delivery of PRINT&PLAY no.3, which sailed on the Sleipnir III from Ascension Island to Brest, Brittany. Any sailors calling at Ascension & bound for the UK or USA any time soon? (see bagpipe.news for the whole story!)

If you don’t come out of this quarantine with a set of 3D printed bagpipes, you didn’t ever lack the time, you lacked the discipline. 😂 These are the stocks that fit into the bag. The prints took forever at 100% infill, PLA, with 0.14 mm layers. Design by @lindstruments
