@JamesMelville jet patching like this is common use in the UK. The only thing holding back repairs is chronic underfunding by the government. The road network is crumbling due a chronic lack of investment in preventative maintenance

@QuinanLloyd Scotland owns North Sea oil gas resources and renewable production. Swinney knows he could bin Barnett and revert to FFA given revenues from energy market all the more if we built our own refinery and manufactured all byproducts. Why doesn’t he do so?

On day one of a new SNP government, I will demand powers over energy to be transferred to the Scottish Parliament - so we can cut bills, protect jobs and unlock investment. If Westminster will not bring your bills down, they should get out of the way for a government that will.

1/ Totally unserious. But journalists should take it seriously and ask Swinney this: if Scotland had to bear the full costs of Scottish assets - which is what this would mean - how could that possibly cut bills in Scotland?
