Our pubs, cafés and restaurants are the heartbeat of our communities, the places where we connect, celebrate and unwind. But right now, too many are at risk of closing their doors for good. Sorcha Eastwood MP is backing a vital call to cut VAT for hospitality and the night-time economy, a simple, practical step that could help keep these local favourites alive. With the Autumn Budget on the horizon, we need to send a strong message to Government. ⏳ Deadline: 16th April - We need as many signatures as possible. 👉 Sign and share: buff.ly/EpBXSNF Let’s stand up for the places that bring our towns and communities to life.

The cumulative tax burden on hospitality is now unsustainable for too many and with global political and economic crises to navigate a change of approach is needed - cut VAT, reform rates and pause govt imposed energy charges
UKHospitality@UKHofficial

“Our pubs, restaurants, cafes and hotels are unable to absorb any more cost." The cost increases hitting hospitality this month will once again hit jobs and threaten business viability. @UKHospKate, our Chair, speaks to the Guardian: theguardian.com/business/2026/…

Hospitality generates 5% of GDP but pays 15% of all business rates - this needs urgent reform and this years revaluations need pausing and bills frozen for all the sector
UKHospitality@UKHofficial

“Business rates are a block and a barrier on investment.” @leondthompson from @ukhscotland gave evidence to the Scottish Parliament on rates. All parties must commit to reforming the broken business rates system and introduce a permanently lower poundage for hospitality.

VAT, business rates, NICs - that’s what our members survey told us was needed as we head into further cost pressures. The govt cannot tackle the cost of living crisis unless it gets a grip of cost of doing business which is fuelling price increases, job losses & investment freeze
UKHospitality@UKHofficial

“Six hospitality venues are closing every single day.” Thank you @JeromeMayhew for raising the scale of business closures in the sector this year. We need a hospitality-wide solution on business rates to prevent closures escalating further.

Right now, in Hospitality, if you are breaking even, you are doing well. Many operators aren't even taking a wage. Jobs are being lost. Tomorrow, they get hit with the Business Rates Increase, just another stealth tax. A reduction in VAT is the only way to resolve this mess.

We need a VAT reduction for Hospitality and other small businesses. The Government won't stop until more and more people are out of work. Support Small businesses and they will support the public.

Unfortunately we will see more and more of this. Customers unhappy with pricing. Let it be clear Hospitality wants to keep pricing affordable. Its the mad folk in Westminster and especially @RachelReevesMP who is forcing business owners hands to put more taxes into HMRC.

Just checking out Simpsons in the strand Menu which looks very good except: £39.50 for an ungarnished Barnsley chop ? !! Plenty of Yorkshire farmers will be jumping up and down over that !

The UK night time economy supports 2+ million jobs and generates billions for the economy — yet it remains in structural decline. Across Europe, lower VAT rates for hospitality are protecting jobs and stimulating demand. The UK must act. We’re calling for a targeted VAT reduction to stabilise high streets, safeguard employment and protect long-term tax revenues. It takes less than a minute: • Click the link • Follow the steps • Email your MP (templated and customisable) Act now: buff.ly/GJaRDWM Led by NTIA in collaboration with Institute of Hospitality, Campaign for Pubs, NCASS, Hospitality Voices and The Wonky Table. Practical policy. Now we need public backing.

It’s not rocket science @RachelReevesMP @UKLabour. Cut fuel duty & cut VAT in line with Europe. Keep inflation low & give consumer spending confidence. Let people keep more of their hard earned money. What am I missing & why won’t this government make bold moves? #CutVat

We face April with huge rises in wages, this effects our NI & pension contributions. Our suppliers are raising prices due to their own costs & we are now looking no at huge hikes in energy costs. We need a VAT cut urgently to avoid us having to pass all of this to our customers.

Hi @Ed_Miliband if we also serve uncooked food with our warm beer, does that mean we don’t have to add VAT? Asking for some friends…

Would like thank @Ed_Miliband for saving thousands of pubs today with the answer to all our woes…we just serve warm beer!! Why in all our years of experience did we never think that we could just turn the cellar cooling and fridges off to mitigate being taxed the shit out of!

VAT in line with Europe. Right now the UK hospitality sector is carrying one of the highest VAT burdens in Europe. At 20% it simply does not stack up against the rest of the continent where lower rates support jobs, communities and local economies. Hospitality is closing at a rate of around 6 to 7 businesses every single day. That is pubs, cafés, restaurants and hotels disappearing from our high streets and towns. This is not just about business owners. It is about the 3+ million people who work in hospitality plus the millions more family members and friends connected to the sector. When hospitality struggles whole communities feel it. Cutting VAT in line with Europe would help bring down prices, support jobs, protect high streets and give this vital industry breathing room. Hospitality does not want handouts. It wants a fair playing field. It is time to reset the balance. #VATinLineWithEurope #CutVAT #Hospitality #taxedout #SupportHospitality @HospoVoices @wonky_table
