"I love Greek mythology, so I was familiar with the story beforehand and thought I had kind of a grasp on who Penelope was. And then I read Chris's adaptation of the story, and I realized that I was at square one with her. I just love that Chris created a version of Penelope that doesn't deny what we know about her. She is patient, modest, and extremely wise, but that also doesn't mean that she's not angry—angry at the suitors who are invading her home. Being wise might mean not showing all of your cards at once. You know, she's also very cunning. The classic story about her making the conditions of the agreement with the suitors based on her finishing the shroud and then secretly undoing it shows that she's kind of doing the best she can with what she has to work with. So, while I appreciated her before playing her, I really respect her. She put up with a lot, and I really appreciate one of the things I admire most about her: she did it with her values intact."
