[🟢] NEW: “Liverpool will want to recruit for Arne Slot this summer in particular in the winger position. I would expect one or two to come in. They think that will be crucial and once they have come in, that’s when you can perhaps judge Arne Slot more fairly. Liverpool will look to do more work in the transfer market.” [@David_Ornstein on NBC]

[🚨] NEW: Liverpool are a strong contender for Jarrod Bowen. [@Matt_Barlow_DM]

🚨 Chelsea exploring deal to appoint Xabi Alonso as next head coach. 44yo former #RMFC boss understood to be open to possibility, although nothing decided yet as process continues. Andoni Iraola also strong contender ahead of departing #AFCB @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/69645…

Nuno makes quite a compelling argument that this whole era of smashing corners into well over a dozen players in the six yard box can't continue. "Everybody's confused. The players can't understand it... [The Premier League] have to solve it... They have to explain it."

[🟢] BREAKING: Juventus are advancing in talks to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson. [@alex_crook]

Pep Guardiola on how he transformed Matheus Nunes into one of the world's best right-backs: "Him. "He has the physical conditions. He's a midfielder in terms of passes, and after incredible pace. He surprised me a lot how tactically he's so smart and intelligent... He deserves all the incredible [praise]. Like Jeremy [Doku], he's made another step as a football player. "I am really, really, really pleased because he can play there, but one day we'll need him as a holding midfielder and he can do it, he can play in pockets. But I think he's a player that in small spaces he struggles a little bit, and in bigger spaces he's top..."

Joe Gomez on the Anfield boos: "We get it, we understand it. For us older boys who have experienced so many good times here it does hurt. If it didn't then you shouldn't still be here. We want to make it right. "It's just a reaction to the whole year, and that's fair enough. The fans pay their hard-earned money to come and watch us and they're entitled to show their frustration."

Slot: "I think it's not fair to me to say I ever ask my players to back off or not press."

Liverpool have only won 10 of their 18 PL home games at Anfield this season. Feels like the work Klopp did to turn it into a fortress has been undone.

“The standards are not only important in the gym.” That sentence lingered. It was agreed that they are important everywhere at a football club, at which point Slot appeared to glare: “It’s also on the pitch. OK.” When the conversation then moved on, he returned to add to his previous answer. “You understand me? Without me saying anything?” Slot did not want to pick a fight publicly with any player, but it seemed pointed. Clearly, Salah’s output on the pitch has dropped this season, along with a number of players. Yet the key theme in all of this is that criticism, and concern, is coming directly from the mouths of the players. Members of the first team have been as hard as anyone about the failure to mount a credible title defence without subsequently being able to deliver the performances to fix matters. 🚨 Arne Slot on players lacking belief because so many things have gone wrong: “It always weighs heavy on players if you lose more games than you would want, especially at a club like this. These players are used to winning. The performance clearly in the Premier League we didn't pick up the points we should have. We haven't had a very good season in the Premier League but we've played better and not got the points we should have. In the Champions League we played to our standard. “Over two games, no club has been able to beat PSG in the last two years. We could have gone close at Anfield if VAR hadn't overturned an award [of a penalty] it usually doesn't!”

[🟢] NEW: My expectation is Curtis Jones will leave. Harvey Elliott will go and Alexis Mac Allister has a big question mark on his future as well. I think Liverpool felt when they spent big last summer, they would need a second summer. The expectation is that some of senior players might be moved on. There are lot of central players that can leave Liverpool and that will open the door to add possibly a ball winning six, a really physical player or maybe go for someone a bit more versatile. #LFCBarça We’re ready! 🔵🔴

🥇| @JamesPearceLFC: "There’s been a lot of talk about going to a back three next season but that’s not a system Slot has favoured. After Salah announced he was leaving in March, I was told that part of the plan going forward would be 4-2-2-2 with Isak and Ekitike paired, with Wirtz and Szoboszlai operating behind them. "Ekitike’s ruptured Achilles means they either need someone else to fill that spot or a different system. Either way they have to buy pace."
