@saintkamus @JonDoyleDesign Like, I get that you think you're on some special mission from the tech lord gods to praise everything and kiss their toes as they walk by, but simplifying the narrative because it helps you look better honestly is tiresome at this point. @flesh2bones @NVIDIAGeForce The ray tracing denoiser is already a form of generative AI. I agree we don’t want our games looking like AI slop, but I think there are some legitimate use cases for generative AI in the rendering pipeline

@nimlot26 You don't have to hear "ai slop" and go "wow, that's shit". I saw it before I was even told it was AI with the pictures of RE9 and simply went "Wow. That looks like shit. Is this AI?" THEN found out it was AI.

@nimlot26 Plus now the "lighting" has light reflecting on the front of the hair folicles instead of being rear-lit like the model is showing it is. Meaning it's actually DESTROYED the fucking lighting.

After this whole debate about DLSS 5 I came to the conclusion that most of the people talking about it are completely unaware of what they don't know...they're on the peak of ignorance and don't even grasp how little they understand. They just heard generative AI and like Pavlov's dog they just start drooling thinking it's the same shit as unethical slop image generators...for the love of Christ...go and educate yourself before raging on the internet for no reason. DLLS 5 is not a prompt based generator...it's not creating stuff based on someone else's images and hallucinates results. It uses the information from the raster to build up a final render frame with the same information but with better lighting and shading... I'll even give you an example on how much of an impact better shading and lighting has. This is a character I've worked on not long ago. On the left you have a raster render, with some bad shaders. On the right you have a render with raytrace on, a much better shader for both hair and skin. They don't even look like the same person...do they? This is what DLSS5 is doing....getting a result like the one on the right(tbh a lot better) at a smaller cost than actually rendering it. Still the same geo, same textures, same light sources. Some of you will go and say the one on the left is better and it's the artist's vision. It's not...it's just the artist's limitation due to shading and lighting constrains. Every single artist out there would love to get the right result in real time.

@tristanmeere Ultimately, to me, I want realism and realistic graphics to the extent it can BE LEGITIMATELY accomplished by artists representing it. Be it dirt build up on cars and tracks in a racing sim, or wake simulation in games involving water. But I want artistry in games like horror

I feel like an important part of this realism discussion is remembering that no game is actually pursuing reality, it's all a lens of stylization. RE9 might utilize systems of rendering lighting that tried to emulate the real world, but the game itself has so much style.

@ohangryring @digitalfoundry All these crybabies always have something to complain about. Raytracing, Pathtracing, FG, now this! If you don't get that this is where games are heading stay on your current GPU/consoles. Plus, if you don't want these features how about you just keep them off.
