We learned from COVID 19 that oil is worthless in a society without consumption, healthcare has to be public because health is public, 50% of jobs can be done from home while the other 50% deserve more than they're being paid, and that we live in a society, not an economy.

@purplepingers Given the state of the Overton window of Australian politics, I'd say they definitely qualify as left. Do capitalists call for nationalisation often? I'd agree it's fine to call out hypocrisy, but wasting time & energy on something inconsequential gives similar energy as Labor

I guess if your interpretation of the left is broad enough to include elements of the capitalist class then I’d have to disagree - I think it’s fine to call out hypocrisy, though I don’t think this is very consequential in the grand scheme of things (although they absolutely should have preferenced the socialists)

@purplepingers I get that, really do. But giving it more air just keeps it going, it doesn't give a good impression of Aus left parties being able to work together or even respect each other. I'm just reminded of the old "simple sabotage" guidelines from the 40's, and find that concerning

@littlebitofryry At the moment I’m genuinely just laughing and think everyone should just calm down but every time I log into twitter I see an even more deranged take - hence the tweet

I’ve seen like 800 tweets about this but my simple way of thinking is: If you choose blue, you don’t want anyone to die. It is impossible for anyone to die if you press blue. If you choose red, you are afraid of others choosing red. The only way anyone dies at all is if you choose red. When I read this, I actually don’t think about myself. I think about hurting the least amount of people. So I pick blue.
MrBeast@MrBeast

Everyone on earth takes a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press? BE HONEST.

@myonlinetrust Given the premise explicitly states you get one vote, you don't help blue. Pressing it afterwards is performative, even if you're just do it for yourself

@littlebitofryry And nothing prevents me from taking a private bite by pressing a red button and then pressing a blue button to try to improve the chances of the fools who didn’t press red.

@littlebitofryry “The conditions on the buttons state what happens if more than 50% of people vote for that button.” It says press, not vote for.

@myonlinetrust You're the only one who has said "X wins the vote". In most votes that means "X gets more than 50% of votes". The conditions on the buttons state what happens if more than 50% of people vote for that button. At this point it's obvious you didn't read or understand the scenario

@littlebitofryry Votes don’t matter! I do think we’re done because you keep saying the same thing. It doesn’t say anything about “if X wins the vote.” It just says “If…press the [red/blue] button. It’s an unrealistic hypothetical and if we take it literally the answer is obvious.

@myonlinetrust Except you don't. The wording states you get a vote, not two. You never demonstrated otherwise, though you did just demonstrate not understanding the scenario. It's at best performative to push the blue button 2nd. I think we're done here

@littlebitofryry Votes are cast by pressing the button. Okay. Whatever. Whether you live or die is whether you pressed the red button (you live) and whether most people pressed the blue button (in which case everyone lives). By pressing both buttons you live and you contribute to everyone living.

@myonlinetrust Votes are cast by pressing the button... As stated in the original scenario. Are you sure you actually read and understood what was put forward?

@littlebitofryry You keep talking about votes, but unless the hypo is a lie, votes don’t matter. Only buttons pressed.

@myonlinetrust Sounds pretty preformative. Unless you legitimately think you get more than one vote. Most vocal red voters decry performative actions.

@littlebitofryry If put in the situation I’d at least *try* to press the blue button after pressing the red button to ensure that I live. If I’m prevented from doing so I’m not going to feel bad about myself because at least I tried. So have I cast one vote or two or zero?

@myonlinetrust Pretty clear when the instructions specify to vote by pressing one of two buttons. Nothing, generally once a vote has been cast it cannot be changed or a 2nd vote cast. Pressing the 2nd button may do nothing, or it may swap your vote. But it was specific of casting a single vote

@littlebitofryry The lack of anything that says you can’t press both buttons. Also, like, how would you be prevented from pressing both buttons anyway?

@myonlinetrust So you think pressing both buttons is not precluded, but you also think that it is intended to be included. What in the scenario makes you think pressing both is not precluded, when you think it is intended to be precluded?

@littlebitofryry I look at the entirety of what is said and I think it doesn’t preclude pressing both buttons. But it was probably intended for it to be precluded as that’d make pressing both buttons the obvious solution (though you’d still probably have people only pressing blue).

@myonlinetrust Do you consider the wording "pressing A red OR blue button" ambiguous about how many buttons you can press? x.com/i/status/20511…
littlebitofryry@littlebitofryry

@myonlinetrust @purple_rock_ @YourBudTevin Every vote has rules around it, which define what is an invalid vote. This scenario defines its vote as 'pressing A red OR blue button". A single vote between 2 options. There's only two outcomes of a vote, the sum of the % votes for Blue and the % votes for Red is 100%

@littlebitofryry It doesn’t say you can’t press both buttons. But I’m willing to add that stipulation if you want.

@myonlinetrust @purple_rock_ @YourBudTevin Look up the definition of vote. You'll find that you're wrong. That's an appeal to emotion, not an argument. Even then, a more accurate statement would be a choice to "sacrifice others" vs "choosing mutual survival"

@myonlinetrust @purple_rock_ @YourBudTevin It meets the definition of the word 'vote'. You just have 2 mutually exclusive options to pick from. Just because it's not the rules for elections you're familiar with doesn't mean it's not a vote.

@myonlinetrust @purple_rock_ @YourBudTevin It's a vote. Do you, as a USA lawyer, not understand what a vote is or how one works? You vote Blue or Red, via the corresponding button. Death for anyone is only possible if more than 50% press Red.

@littlebitofryry @purple_rock_ @YourBudTevin 🤷‍♂️ I’d try to press both buttons. Not sure what happens if you try to do that. But ultimately dying happens when you don’t press red and 50% or more don’t press blue.
