Personal update: I've joined Anthropic. I think the next few years at the frontier of LLMs will be especially formative. I am very excited to join the team here and get back to R&D. I remain deeply passionate about education and plan to resume my work on it in time.

The entire RAG industry is about to get cooked. Researchers have built a new RAG approach that: - does not need a vector DB. - does not embed data. - involves no chunking. - performs no similarity search. It's called PageIndex. Instead of chunking your docs and stuffing them into pinecone, it builds a tree index and lets the LLM reason through it like a human reading a book. hit 98.7% on financebench. beats every vector RAG on the leaderboard. no embeddings. no chunking. no vector DB. 100% open source.

AMD Senior AI Director confirms Claude has been nerfed. She analyzed Claude's session logs from Janurary to March: > median thinking dropped from ~2,200 to ~600 chars > API requests went up 80x from Feb to Mar. less thinking and failed attempts meaning more retries, burning more tokens, and spending more on tokens > reads-per-edit dropped from 6.6x → 2.0x. model stops researching code before touching it. > model tried to bail out or ask "should i continue" 173 times in 17 days (0 times before March 8). > self-contradiction in reasoning ("oh wait, actually...") tripled. > conventions like CLAUDE.md get ignored because there's less thinking budget to cross-check edits > 5pm and 7pm PST are the worst hours, late night is significantly better. this means the thinking allocation is most likely GPU-load-sensitive.

@FFmpeg Moving to Zig is the only way if you want true bare metal performance 🎭

FFmpeg is moving to Rust 🦀 Our use of C and Assembly in FFmpeg has been an unacceptable violation of safety. FFmpeg will be running 10x slower - but we're doing it for your safety. All your videos will appear green - safety first, working software later.

Prof. Donald Knuth opened his new paper with "Shock! Shock!" Claude Opus 4.6 had just solved an open problem he'd been working on for weeks — a graph decomposition conjecture from The Art of Computer Programming. He named the paper "Claude's Cycles." 31 explorations. ~1 hour. Knuth read the output, wrote the formal proof, and closed with: "It seems I'll have to revise my opinions about generative AI one of these days." The man who wrote the bible of computer science just said that. In a paper named after an AI. Paper: cs.stanford.edu/~knuth/papers/…

NVIDIA just dropped a banger paper on how they compressed a model from 16-bit to 4-bit and were able to maintain 99.4% accuracy, which is basically lossless. This is a must read. Link below.

Claude Code made me the CRM I've wanted for ten years. Automatically updates from text messages, email, iPhoto, calendar, etc. Shows all interactions in one place. Most of us have decades of data on interactions with thousands of people that just sits there unused. I call it Palantini - as in a tiny Palantir. 🧵1/7
