Some of our prizes from the Edinburgh Book Fair: the album from which the last two images are taken was shot 1911-1912 by someone very capable and I'll probably digitise it in due course

Stopped at a second - hand store in Olten today & nearly swooned. I have been wanting this book for a long time & there it was, as if waiting for me. The woman selling it said she could not imagine why anyone would want it & practically gave it away. A good end to a hard week.

An 1895 photo showing ships leaving the port of Swansea at high tide. There was a local pub named "The Cape Horner" until quite recently... Image: RD Rhodes (copy).

Jack Bowsher - Thunder Run: Meiktila 1945
It's #ThingThursday! This week this is my Kodak Retina II Type 142 - made between 1937-39 in Stuttgart - I bought this just before I went on school trips to the First World War battlefields, Auschwitz and Munich. Some really haunting photos, like the ones at Hooge Crater Museum, and the gate outside Auschwitz I.

Throughout the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, an SEC worker travelled all over Melbourne each day along with his Super 8 camera to meticulously document the city's history/events over 30 yrs. All 150+ reels, along with photos/slides have been donated to me. I will digitise and put online.

We’re getting to the point where very old people (Deighton was 97) have photos in their pasts that are difficult to date. Viewing them triggers a weird sort of temporal disorientation. I guess this one was taken in the 80s or early 90s, but if you didn’t know who this man was you could easily think it’d been taken much more recently.

I wrote a book! I don't mention it much on this account but if you like landscape, folklore, magic, psychography, weirdness... you MIGHT like this 60 page experimental prose poem about walking the South Downs Way (also available via Am*z*n) brokensleepbooks.com/product-page/c…

Since November I've been researching these five men and the circumstances of their tragic deaths on 22 March 1943 in Fotheringhay. Today I received letter (not shared here) from HRH The Prince of Wales for the families of these 5 men and all those who will be at Sunday's service.
