@SC_wife_n_mommy I was in a slump last year until my Grade 5s got me into the Keeper of the Lost Cities series

@cultofpedagogy Think of the last time you assigned your students a project involving researching or finding information and were disappointed with the sources your students used. Your librarian can help put together a curated set of resources and teach how to find more quality resources
English

@cultofpedagogy Think of all the time you spend searching google for a read aloud, or articles, or mentor texts for certain writing styles. Your librarian can save you that time and recommend newer and more diverse options. A lot of the web sources rec the same books from 15-20 yrs ago

Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. And librarians are on the front lines, fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone.

@ExLibrisMrHunt Hardly any. I would say less than other the same as the months we are in school.

Seven years! Fantastic, @lizcom28!
And that’s exactly the attitude we’re talking about.
It’s trepidatious at first, but it goes so well, right?
Sounds like in 7 yrs, you hardly had any losses of books?
That fear is the main hurdle.

@ExLibrisMrHunt I’ve been doing summer lending for the past 7 years. I was a little worried the first time about the books coming back, but they all did and I’ve never worried since. Library books are meant to be used. Why should they sit on the shelves while the school is closed for break

Teacher-Librarian colleagues,
Let us know if you’re planning to #SetTheBooksFree by doing summer lending for your students.
Wondering how that would work?
Wondering you you should try?
Want to overcome the worry about losing books?
Learn more about the idea in this thread…

@kelseybogan The learning stairs/risers/“amphitheater” I’ve been plagued by these in 2 out of 3 elem libs. Built in curved shelves that are not an appropriate depth or width for any size of book
English

@misskubelik I saw someone suggest cutting the pages of weeded graphic novels. Those have been a hit with my students
English

@kelseybogan I’d love to figure out how to make a conference presentation on it. Thoughts for the future…
English

@kelseybogan I’m strongest at collection development and environment (creating a space where students want to be/having a busy library), also knowing the curriculum and helping teachers
Not as good at creative programming and events. Definitely look at other librarians for these ideas
English

@becinthelibrary I will probably do the Picture Book category since I already have all of them. The timing of the announcement is tricky with international book orders. I think Rover’s Story is coming in my order as well
English

@heymrsbond It’s hard to pick one, but first thing that came to mind is Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
English

@misskubelik @JenReadsRomance “What lives under the desk” for cover but “Where the other sock goes” for Title and premise

Are links working again? It's time for the most important AND DELIGHTFUL vote. It's time for you, the public, to weigh in on my student's fake book covers. Which one is YOUR favorite? forms.gle/4KTBqXFzQPiY9K… Vote, share widely and share all your thoughts! @JenReadsRomance

@thenextgenlib I love this idea! When I tried March madness in the past, a lot of students didn’t want to read books that were pre-chosen. This opens them up to still have free choice but have a fun tournament
English

I'm doing #genre #MarchMadness this year! I've done popular #books, series, #ProjectLit, #manga, etc. This year it's what is our school's favorite GENRE. Make ur own here: docs.google.com/drawings/d/1zw…

More inspiring library displays, this time from @librarianedge and @kimbeeman . The level of student voice in signage is exceptional. #intlchat #lksw2023
