@lizttlefrog My hero can't afford anything because he's not a hero and I need him to be a broke asshole🙂↕️

Unironically why I think some people should stick to worldbuilding for fun and not write books in general
Oliver Dahl@OliverWDahl
The more I think about this the funnier it gets
English

@jay7numbers Never played but you'd never catch me worrying about fictional economy.. got plenty of that here😭😭😭
English

@fuxuanupdates I agree... cool worldbuilding elements in a good book are like a cherry on top of an already good cake. It's fine to enjoy the process but I don't think it should be the heart of your story
English

@lizttlefrog World building is the least interesting part of writing imo it's so hard to write stuff that isn't really relevant to the plot and just here to make the story feel more real
English

@itsbasilbasil @MalazofWesteros Fair I mean I didn't notice that trend but maybe its more recent then the books I tend to read.. I did read Baru and I wasn't very impressed but I'm picky so perhaps you will enjoy it more!
English

@lizttlefrog @MalazofWesteros I need to pick up Baru Cormorant because I've heard it's a book where this is very expertly avoided
English

Think this was most people's issues with Wind and Truth. Didn't know this was a big trend among modern fantasy in general tho.
🌿💚Basil➡️HaloFest💚🌿@itsbasilbasil
There's a lot of modern fantasy that is obsessed with sanding down any emotional/sociopolitical tension by making everyone unproblematic and fluent in therapy-speak in ways that make zero sense for the setting or characters, while allowing the quirky fun violence to go unexamined
English

@bardinhell But let's be honest they don't want to think about that they want to worldbuild like playing with legos and that's fine! But I just think personally as an author you should always be more passionate about the story than the world because the reader can tell
English

@lizttlefrog easily could’ve just changed some things around for his protagonist to make it so he could afford things too. or let him have some friends or have the shop keepers be aware of his quest, the king or whoever giving him access to supplies like it’s fantasy you can do whatever lol
English

@jey_key_hey equal rights and not being seen as just sexual objects for their pleasure
English

@jey_key_hey Right you have enough empathy to write deep characters almost as though you were in their heads but not enough so see women as human beings?? The patriarchy has such strong clutches on them they will question the entire world order except when it comes to women wanting to have
English

I just added it to my tbr a couple of days ago😭😭

@jey_key_hey Of course every author whose book I want to pick up is a misogynist god dammit

English

@lizttlefrog I think in theory it has a cool premise, structure, and overall vibe to be a nice solid read, but i dont believe the author thought his messaging through, i think he has strange hangups about women, and im not sure he even has to chops to achieve what he set out to do with this
English

@jey_key_hey No but now I need the tea!! I barely heard anything about it so Id love to know what you think so I can decide if its even worth subjecting myself to torment😭😭
English

@lizttlefrog Yeah.. dont do that to yourself lol or do, id love to watch you rant
English

@MalazofWesteros Exactly cause wdym? 'Morally gray chatacter' is very much thee trend right now so he surely can't be created through avoiding conflict.. or are you just saying books are 'too woke' rn cause 🚩
English

@lizttlefrog Made me scroll down their page and they don't seem like that kind ofvperson to me but I'll like to see them give examples of the books they're talking about in this case cuz this is the first I'm hearing about this trend being a thing.
English

@MalazofWesteros BUT I HEARD ITS GOOD THAT’S WHY I ADDED IT😂😭 im not a masochist they find meeeeeee
English

@lizttlefrog Lmao. Your ability to be drawn to books that torture you is truly outstanding #masochisticbibliophile
English

@MalazofWesteros Not even that just worldbuild for the fun of it like when I was a kid and me and my sisters were to play with dolls/figurines I would build them a house and then lose interest in actually playing😂😂😂 I just liked the part of making a house for them! You can do the same here
English

@lizttlefrog What happened to just making lore and world-building for table top games smh.
English

@lizttlefrog I live life by one rule: never miss a chance to dunk on Patrick Rothfuss 🙂↕️

Ahh yes my favorite romantasy - asoif

Book Danny would never burn down kingslanding intentionally, book Jon would burn down kingslanding to keep Danny warm

@BranwynHlfwitch That works perfectly actually because I hated his books! And with the shit that happens in book 2 I wish he didn't write them!😁
English

@lizttlefrog I think that was Rothfuss’ Reddit account because it’s giving ‘Kvothe Can’t Pay For University’, which is what TNOTW should have been called.
