💡 When people read the results of IBM $IBM (not good, btw), they conclude "Okay, CIOs prefer to spend on AI"
⚠️ I don’t read it that way at all
💰 Right now, as a CIO, you are under immense pressure. Your CEO and business leaders want results and AI suppliers are expensive. Your budget is flat, so you have no choice but to divert funds toward AI
🚨 But on the ground, the reality is that a lot of AI projects FAIL TO REALLY BRING ROI
📈 Let me be clear: I am not saying AI is a scam. Not at all. But AI is not magical. To get real results, you need a mature data layer, workflows and heavy change management. This takes a lot of time
⁉️ What happens in 2027 when companies look at the numbers and realize their AI budgets exploded, but the results were far from good? Will they keep spending blindly, or will they focus only on high-value projects with the right ROI? Will they continue to halt spending increases on CRITICAL SOFTWARE THAT WILL HAVE AI EMBEDDED at a cheaper execution price than what they are trying to build today?
👀 If you actually look at the rest of IBM's report, software is holding up fine and consulting is not doing badly either (because AI implementation requires heavy consulting)
👉 Don't misread this report. This is a temporary budget diversion and it is completely normal. This is not (yet, at least) a sign that AI will kill software and consulting
