Fellow journos, I’ve a favor to ask. I’m hoping you can help me spread the word about a new(ish) journalism contest, and yeah, you’re probably thinking: Do we really need another journalism contest? This one’s different. It’s a worldwide contest, called the True Story Award. 🧵

.@PolkAwards curator John Darnton tells @StanfordDaily: “Mr. Baker’s reporting was thorough and fearless — undertaken in circumstances in which he had much to lose . . . . With young people like this the future of journalism looks bright.”

Lightning strike story by colleague @ELaserDavies raises old question: why do some survive, not others; Hamlet said: "There's a divinity that shapes our ends, rough-hew them how we will." Not all questions can be answered, but good newspapers raise them. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/…

Read this obit by colleague @emilylangerwp. Barry Sussman, the editor who seemed from the first to know where Watergate was going. When we came into the newsroom that day 50 years ago and innocently asked if anything was up, he already suspected. washingtonpost.com/obituaries/202…

How comfortable are people with declaring that they aren't robots, so they can use Google? Does it seem fair to throw robots over the side that way? Will it be held against them if and when robots take over? Is a list being kept? Will robots learn to find squares without buses?
