I'll do something I should've done long ago: I'm deleting this app. You know the reasons. I'll try to stay away from all social media for a while but when/if I come back, you can find me on the butterfly app at LdAM.bsky.social.

I'm thrilled to share that I'll be starting as an Assistant Professor of Public Policy @ucrspp in Fall 2025! I'm incredibly excited to join the faculty and start working with students there.

Will Democrats be able to regain working class support? Will Republicans build a stable coalition with non-university educated voters? Or will the working class constantly switch their vote from one side to the other, while both parties' policies ignore them? Who knows? (5/5)

Now, the bizarre coalition that Trump built between the working class and billionaires is hardly stable either. Republicans, at some point, will presumably have to start delivering some form of redistribution. Today, this is unimaginable. (4/5)

Since the Clinton era, Democrats have relied on a unique coalition in American history between university-educated urbanites and the working class. There's a reason that this coalition could never last – one that many progressives might well be reluctant to acknowledge: (1/5)

If you're on the left and your response to Trump's election is that more than half of Americans are a bunch of misogynistic racists, firstly, well done on your moral rectitude. But also good luck winning elections ever again.

I'm currently doing this on a voluntary basis as my last employer, a Charity, had massive funding cuts and thus, job cuts. I was one of those cuts. I hope to be working back in the sector soon.

Got a police update on a rogue landlord I tackled last year: Changed locks on his tenants. No reason. No notice. (Trying to force them out as he had higher paying tenants lined up). Panicking tenants called me. I called Police. They demanded he show up to unlock. So did they.

@lmaia Any interest in policy topics? I have a lot of alternative form materials in my Intro to Policy Analysis syllabus (all American-focused).

Fellow Americanists, please send my way your favourite non-academic pieces about American politics. Songs, films, reportages, podcasts, books, non-academic articles – it doesn't matter. I just want to go a bit beyond academic research in my syllabus to show AP in practice.

They’d go somewhere much richer and with a much more generous welfare system. But, also, do you have any fucking idea how hard it is to navigate the welfare system in the UK? It took me two years to learn how to navigate the NHS, and I’m highly educated and speak English.

“Oh, but asylum seekers want to claim our benefits!” Fuck’s sake! Do you think people spend their lives around the world dreaming of the (notoriously stingy) British welfare system? If people wanted to live off of the State, you dumbass, they’d go to – I don’t know – Norway.

Let’s state what should be obvious about the resentment of asylum seekers living in hotels - that this is a product of past government’s total failure to process claims and that successful applicants want nothing more than to work for their living.
