Now, the bizarre coalition that Trump built between the working class and billionaires is hardly stable either. Republicans, at some point, will presumably have to start delivering some form of redistribution. Today, this is unimaginable. (4/5)

I'm currently doing this on a voluntary basis as my last employer, a Charity, had massive funding cuts and thus, job cuts. I was one of those cuts. I hope to be working back in the sector soon.

Got a police update on a rogue landlord I tackled last year: Changed locks on his tenants. No reason. No notice. (Trying to force them out as he had higher paying tenants lined up). Panicking tenants called me. I called Police. They demanded he show up to unlock. So did they.

They’d go somewhere much richer and with a much more generous welfare system. But, also, do you have any fucking idea how hard it is to navigate the welfare system in the UK? It took me two years to learn how to navigate the NHS, and I’m highly educated and speak English.

“Oh, but asylum seekers want to claim our benefits!” Fuck’s sake! Do you think people spend their lives around the world dreaming of the (notoriously stingy) British welfare system? If people wanted to live off of the State, you dumbass, they’d go to – I don’t know – Norway.

@northernmnkey @DAaronovitch Very high, actually, seeing as (1) that the British economy is very near full employment at the moment and (2) the UK actually has the best record of migrant integration in Europe.

Let’s state what should be obvious about the resentment of asylum seekers living in hotels - that this is a product of past government’s total failure to process claims and that successful applicants want nothing more than to work for their living.
