(1/9) A very rare original Xbox “Duke” controller prototype, built approximately a year before the Xbox launched. Below, I’ll document all of the differences between this and a retail unit. #Xbox #Microsoft

Denise Chaudhari, the lead designer for Duke, confirmed this unit’s authenticity. This is a very cool unit, one that originates in the very early days of the Xbox design process. As of now, unless someone knows otherwise, this is by far the earliest Duke prototype ever found.

Minor detail, but the connector has grip added to the dimple as well as is missing the “Xbox” branding.

@RJ_Star I think I just found one of these and Insee that you preserve video game history, mind shooting me a DM? Just curious if you know much about them.

If you got one of these while they were for sale, hit me up through DMs. Surely together the community has at least one full set of the required modules. Plus, I bet a lot can be figured out from the board itself.

We see some very cool markings throughout, but my favorite is the Care&Feeding (sorta user manual) reference. M7 codename, DEV4 stage, 02 rev.

An iPhone 6S APPVT unit, with some nice RF holes and a standard (for the era) serial engraving on the lower rear of the unit. These devices are getting harder to find as they age, since most are bought and in collections by now.

@DANdFRA @Skyfops I have my doubts too. I study prototypes and Apple is not this sloppy. There's no reason to have the sensors not behind a visor at minimum. And what is he even doing? Why is he in public with a very sensitive unit? Either he's not supposed to be out there or this is fake.
