If the Padres were to have added #PadresTwitter's favorite 1B option at the beginning of the year (Jose Abreu, a much larger commitment than Carpenter); their favorite C option (Christian Vasquez), and landed one of Rodon - who was talked about here - or DeGrom. They wouldn't be better in the standings. Nothing would have changed. We'd still all be terribly disappointed. Those same people are crying on the regular about the lack of depth and who the Padres didn't sign when so many of those players wouldn't have changed a fucking thing. Could the Padres have made better moves? Sure. But so many of the players most fans wanted with good track records have been busts this year. Turner. Abreu. DeGrom. Scherzer? Vasquez. Correa. Peralta. Thor. Alfaro. Profar. Which is ironic considering many of the players the Padres signed have done well: Lugo and Wacha specifically. Two of the better bargains on the FA market. And Sanchez for the minimum instead of Vasquez. Weird...

Sorry. I really thought this team was going to be very good. I still think they have a lot of really good players. I still don't think Bob Melvin is the problem. They've had some decent stretches and will probably have a couple more. But this isn't the team we expected.
