We discovered over the weekend that the Planned Parenthood website was leaking extremely sensitive health data to third-party trackers like Google and Facebook, and we immediately notified the press. Privacy has never been more important - read our story below.

NEW exclusive from me ⁦@washingtonpost⁩ : Planned Parenthood left marketing trackers running on its search and scheduling pages that shared IP address — and, in some cases, selected method of abortion — with big tech companies. washingtonpost.com/technology/202…

@Rob38316436 Hey Rob, could you email us through the app (support button in account page)? When you do this, we get a diagnostics report that will help us troubleshoot what's happening. Apologies that the new build isn't working for you. We are working on a bug fix release now.

NEW STUDY: Sites that are built with using website builders like Webflow may unintentionally sacrifice user privacy (sharing of health-related data) and safety in exchange for convenience and speed. Thanks to @protocol for reaching out to us for this important research.

NEW: Plan C Pills, a leading resource for abortion pills, uses trackers that send data to Facebook and Google. Plan C isn't alone ofc. But w/so much focus on how Big Tech will protect data post-Roe, abortion access groups need to rethink privacy, too. protocol.com/policy/plan-c-…

this finding was by @lockdown_hq, which makes an app that can block marketing trackers. After the Post published Lockdown’s observations, Planned Parenthood suspended use of the trackers on sensitive pages.

Does iOS 14's App Tracking Transparency protect you from trackers? ❌ Nope. In our new Privacy Review of Yelp 🍕, even though we explicitly requested "Do Not Track", Lockdown Privacy blocked 5 third party trackers that iOS 14 was useless in stopping. privacyreview.co/yelp

All of Apple's operating systems, services, apps are 100% closed source with zero transparency or independent audits. This is what lets them get away with claiming privacy in public, while secretly abusing your data. Apple can be open source, but they refuse to do it. Why? 🤔

When Apple releases iOS 14.5 next week, you'll see a flood of headlines paraphrasing various forms of "New iOS Update Protects Your Privacy". While that may be partially true in specific cases, it definitely isn't the whole story. Don't fall for it. (fin)

Apple is a company owned by profit-driven shareholders. They'll choose profits while parading privacy on billboards and commercials. This is the reason we built Lockdown Privacy, and made it @openlyoperated for true transparency: To keep everyone, even Apple, honest. (11/n)

If Apple actually cared about privacy, they'd stop tracking users without consent in their own apps. Here's Lockdown Privacy blocking Apple News' third-party tracking on iOS 14.5 - the supposed "tracking transparency" update. "Rules for thee, but not for me." (1/n) 🧵👇
