Randy Boyagoda may well be right as to what the Pope intended, but whether the Pope's intentions (if he had them) are correct is another matter. And whether the economic and social prescriptions of those who would embrace such intentions uplift or oppress their intended beneficiaries is a question the 20th century has already decided adversely to their position.

Pope Leo XIV’s new encyclical has received widespread praise for its pronouncements against artificial intelligence—but the document contains a more important insight, and is challenging much more than just Big Tech, Randy Boyagoda argues. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/05/…

@Turdis789 @MeghanMcCain @ProjectLincoln proving they have no business casting moral aspersions on anyone other than themselves.

In addition to the policy errors, the termination of competent people and replacing them with incompetents in high office, and all that comes with that, the higher cost of Trumpism may be purely cultural- the countless millions of Americans who emulate his casual cruelty because they think its cool to do so. Here's one example from Georgia, and why I will vote for a Brian Kemp Republican and even a sensible moderate Democrat over a "MAGA Warrior" Republican every time.

Abraham Lincoln got shot in the head and still managed to keep the country together. Franklin Roosevelt ran the entire Second World War from a wheelchair. Eisenhower defeated Hitler and then, just to stay busy, built 48,000 miles of motorway. Kennedy looked at the moon, said “we’ll have that,” and inside a decade they did. Reagan stared down the Soviet Union until it simply gave up and went home.
Two hundred and fifty years. Forty-six men. Men who stormed beaches, split atoms, faced down nuclear annihilation over breakfast and then filed sensible paperwork about it afterward.
And then, after all of that, the entire accumulated weight of American history, the most consequential democratic experiment the world has ever seen, produced this.
A television review.
No Mars landing. No cure for cancer. No Soviet empire dissolved before lunch. Just a man in the White House, in the year 2026, informing the internet that a CBS chat show host had no talent.
That is what 250 years of American greatness built. America should be deeply, permanently ashamed of itself.

Mr. President, completely agree about having a lot of fun over these next seven months.
But nitpicking? Some of your advisors are telling you to support things like:
- Using billions of taxpayer dollars to compensate convicted felons and thugs who attacked police. (Ed Martin)
- Pushing 50-year mortgages and Elizabeth Warren's housing bill over sound conservative housing policy. (Bill Pulte)
- Using taxpayer money to transform publicly traded companies into state-owned enterprises. (Howard Lutnick)
- Firing our very best generals and not holding Putin accountable for his systematic kidnapping, rape, torture, and murder of Ukrainian civilians. (Pete Hegseth)
If opposing these things makes me a RINO, then I gladly accept that nickname.
We need Republicans to do well in November, but the stupid stuff is killing our chances!

@aj_inapi Sure they do, you flippin' dimwit. That's why Donnie T's approval rating is hovering a shade above 30%.

Being in the MAJORITY does NOT happen by accident in American politics.
A White House majority.
A Senate majority.
A House majority.
That alignment is RARE.
The American people gave Republicans that power in 2024 for ONE reason:
They wanted President Trump to have the ability to execute his final term agenda without constant obstruction.
Voters knew exactly what they were doing.
After years of border chaos, inflation, cultural insanity, weak leadership and weaponized institutions, Americans handed Republicans the political capital to actually govern.
But today, Republicans keep acting like they’re the minority party.
Some of these politicians KNOW what it’s like when Democrats control power.
Democrats steamroll their agenda.
They pressure holdouts.
They enforce party discipline.
They move aggressively.
They use every ounce of institutional leverage available.
Meanwhile Republicans get the majority and immediately start negotiating against themselves.
Every time there’s a major fight:
- a few cave
- a few panic over media headlines
- a few suddenly become “concerned moderates”
- and Democrats end up getting leverage they never earned at the ballot box
That is NOT what voters gave Republicans power to do.
The American people did not vote for a Republican majority so it could behave like an apologetic consulting firm terrified of confrontation.
They voted for RESULTS.
A majority means USING power.
Not borrowing it temporarily before surrendering it back to the minority.
@LeaderJohnThune, the people are tired of you acting like you're a minority leader.

@realBrandonGill He may oppose amnesty, but I'm sure he'd be the first to raise his hand for a pardon.
Speaking of pardons, couldn't your father in law use one of those as well?
English

@bennyjohnson This is what the massholes forgot. We know Trump is fighting for us. Calling this the Epstein administration is not MAGA and not us. We stand with Trump.
English

@bennyjohnson Benny, like so many things this President does, you're also "stupid on stilts".
English

David, I'm a big fan, but surely you realize that given the vindictive and malevolent nature of the President it would have been a breach of his fiduciary obligations, in fact if not in law, towards everyone invested in any of his companies to have said anything else. You therefore need to give Bezos a pass on this.
English

I’m sorry, that’s absurd. By virtually every measure he’s less disciplined and more erratic.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar
Bezos on Trump: "I think he's a more mature, more disciplined version of himself than he was in his first term. Trump has lots of good ideas. He's been right about a lot of things. You have to give him credit where credit is due."
English

@kate_p45 @burtjonesforga Just a reminder: You and MAGA are Stupid on Stilts and soon your days of doing your worst will be over.
English

🇺🇸Just a reminder: MAGA is the Republican Party now. The last thing Georgia needs is another Bush Republican as Governor.
Those days are over. We’re cleaning out the establishment hacks and staying America First.
The clear choice for Georgia is @burtjonesforga
English

MAGA Mike Collins is the true conservative in the race for #GASEN.
He’s a colleague, a patriot, and ready to take back Georgia from the radical left in November. @MikeCollinsGA has my complete endorsement!

English

@BasedMikeLee It's past time to nuke the Stupid on Stilts Trump bootlickers....like you.
English

🚨CONSERVATIVE INFLUENCERS, open your 👀
The Republican Establishment is doing it AGAIN.
Just like Bush Republicans pushed DeSantis.
Just like they propped up Nikki Haley.
Now they’re all-in on Rick Jackson in Georgia.
Facts:
• Rick Jackson had ZERO posts, donations, or public support for President Trump or MAGA before December 2025.
• His sudden $1M donation? Only after establishment RINOs convinced him to run because he has billions.
Rick Jackson donated to Kemp, Raffensperger, Duncan. He donated to Liz Cheney, but only after she voted to impeach Trump.
And get this:
Rick Jackson supports the very organizations that are flooding Georgia counties and cities around the country with Syrian & Afghan "refugees."
He loves H1B visas, while his own county is being overwhelmed by foreigners from from India & Pakistan.
This is the same globalist playbook.
Georgia, MAGA has ONE choice:
President Trump’s endorsed @burtjonesforga
America First or the old Bush Republicans
No more late-to-the-party opportunists.
Choose wisely, Georgia. 🇺🇸

English

@coachbrucepearl Neither this clown nor you are the answer. You are both "stupid on stilts".
English

I don't understand why you want to "break" Make America Great Again people? Isn't that what we are supposed to do as Americans?
Fox News@FoxNews
"Either MAGA extremists are going to break the country, or we're going to break them." House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries lays out what he says is the Democratic strategy against the MAGA movement — not just to defeat them in elections, but to "break their spirit” over what he described as "unacceptable" extremism.
English

Mike Collins is a conservative workhorse, a proven legislator, and a steadfast supporter of President Trump and his America First agenda.
Mike knows our district incredibly well, as his father, Mac, honorably represented us in Congress for 6 terms, leaving a lasting legacy in the many counties he once served.
During my primary runoff election two years ago, Mike Collins stood by me, and rallied support for my campaign across our district.
Now, as Mike proceeds to a runoff, I’m proud to do the same, and endorse my friend and colleague, Mike Collins, for the United States Senate!
