@EricaStanfordMP As an international educator I have struggled with NZs drop in standards. When I began my career we were world leading and our programs were used internationally. Reading was our area of strength which doesn’t bode well for the science and maths scores to come.

The PIRLS international reading study released tonight shows the reading ability of our Year 5 students continues to decline. NZ recorded its lowest score since the study began in 2001. Without urgent change, our literacy and numeracy standards will continue to decline

@EducationGovtNZ I run a school in Dubai where we have now closed, waiting for things to get worse rather than preventing it prioritizes status quo over the health of children. Things are going to have to change, so be ahead of the game and protect what is important.

While we are seeing mass school shutdowns elsewhere in the world, in New Zealand we don’t yet have community transmission of COVID-19 – so there isn’t currently a public health reason to do so here.

Now, more than ever, we must shine a light on the world’s teachers.  As education systems transform overnight, the world has woken up to the critical work that teachers do and how they can help light our way. ✨ #GTP2020 #TeachersMatter
