Possibly ignorant question: I’ve read extensively about the spice trade and its importance to ancient and medieval Europe, and its centrality to the Age of Exploitation and other things.
Given Europeans had these spices, that some were claimed to be as valuable as gold, and that both periods were sophisticated in farming and botany, why didn’t anyone figure out how to grow their own — even in small amounts in greenhouses, which they had in various forms?
Alchemy was supposedly a big deal. Was there an equivalent systematic attempt at spice cultivation? Why didn’t it motivate greater greenhouse innovation?
@latitude_fs The login works on a machine with English as the first language. My guess is your locale settings are broken for displaying other languages. Please fix this or I cannot easily pay my bill.
@logalvatron No worries! We are also available on other social platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. If you would like to send us a PM there, we're happy to assist. ^Mike
@latitude_fs In your latest updates I can no longer login. Your website offers no easy way to contact you unless you are in Australia timezone. Can you please fix this so I can pay my bill.
@logalvatron Hi logalvatron, sorry to hear that you are having some difficulty accessing your online account. If this error persist, please send us a DM and our team can help look into this. ^Mike

Incidents have plagued United Airlines in the past few weeks. Most notably United Flight 35 where a tire fell off a Boeing 777 during takeoff. The plane was diverted to LAX where it landed safely.
In less than a week, United Airlines encounters five news-worthy issues. One commonality? They are headed to or from SFO.
3/14/24 United Boeing 777-300 Sydney to SFO diverted due to "maintenance issue"
3/11/24 United Boeing 737-900 Houston to Fort Myers engine ingests bubble wrap and catches fire NOT SFO
3/8/24 United Airbus 320 SFO to Mexico City diverted due to hydraulic system issue
3/8/24 United Boeing 777-200 SFO to Osaka tire falls off from landing gear
3/7/24 United Boeing 757-300 Honolulu to SFO diverts due to right hand engine shutdown
Spent more than 8 months on this, and it’s the wildest story I’ve ever worked on.
The Tasmanian government covered up literally thousands of cases of child abuse over two decades. The cover up continues to this day.

Book challenge
I appreciate that there are many people who roll their eyes at my optimistic-libertarian-technological-triumphalist take on things, yet still interact civilly. I have had several meaningful conversations here, but the bandwidth is limited.
If you are one of those people, suggest a book for me to read that you think will challenge my worldview. I will read it with an open mind and make some posts reacting to it. In return you will do the same for @johanknorberg ‘s The Capitalist Manifesto.
Volunteer yourself and a book here. I will pick a few and run a poll tomorrow.
We are thrilled to announce that Bliss Oosterwijk (Year 11), has been selected as a finalist in the Catholic Earthcare Schools Art Competition. Her oil painting titled 'Divine Justice' pictured, aligns perfectly with this year's theme, 'Let Justice and Peace Flow.'
@bernhardsson If you want skunkworks adoption which bubbles up to procurement organically, making it easy to onramp by not moving the data is important.
When prospective customers say "we need to run this in our own cloud account", may brain filters it out and what I hear is "we don't need your product desperately enough".
After the Adams County Sheriff's Office raided the home of Afroman and found nothing, Afroman turned footage of the raid into a music video. Now, the officers are suing over "emotional distress, embarrassment, ridicule, loss of reputation and humiliation.”
