From today, all cyber crime police stations across the country are empowered to file FIRs & investigate offences as the Promotion & Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 comes into force. Anyone offering, promoting, endorsing online money gaming services or facilitating transactions pertaining to online money gaming is liable to punishment under PROGA.

Although the Promotion & Regulation of Online Gaming Act & Rules framed thereunder have come into force from today, @GoI_MeitY has not yet made the digital office & website/mobile application of the Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI) live, as required by law, to operationalise major parts of PROG Act & Rules including those pertaining to registration & determination of esports & social games, monitoring ban on online money games etc.

The PROGA batch of cases was mentioned before the Hon’ble CJI’s bench today for seeking a definitive date of hearing for directions since the matter is listed in tomorrow’s alternative bench for hearing, and it may not come up because of the ongoing 9-judge bench Sabarimala matter. Hon’ble CJI however said the matter is not urgent and will be taken up in due course. No definitive date given.
