@MissJLud I did it last year as was on maternity leave. I said never again unless it drastically changes!

Just got paid for exam marking & worked out it's about £5ph and that's me being generous. 🤣 There must be a way to make exam marking more attractive so that it all gets done in good time too - I think it's as simple as having more reasonable quotas not necessarily more pay!

First term in new school is all done. It’s been a great challenge, in the most positive way. Can already feel I’m going to learn and grow so much, and really love being part of a happy, supportive team again!

Now I work in a school that prioritises well-being, I’m no longer drowning in marking and attending endless meetings. So when I received a pamper gift from my ‘guardian Angel’ today, I loved it. Schools can get well-being right. 2/2

A few years ago I tweeted my contempt of ‘secret friends’ leaving mugs of chocolate for colleagues. I thought it was meaningless and nothing to do with well-being. I needed time, not sweets 1/2

Really enjoyed my first experience of inset at my new school today. I love working in an environment of research informed practice and everyone striving for improvement and sharing best practice!

@JoBullen1 @adamboxer1 I remember so clearly having a Drama A level paper remarked and it went up 15 marks. Crossed two grade boundaries, moving me up a grade overall. That could have been make or break for my uni place (thankfully it wasn’t!) but yes - marking has been ridiculous for a long time!

@lollydaffs @adamboxer1 Actually, the completely failed one may have been the module I got a U on, and my teacher encouraged me to get it remarked and I gained 20 marks from somewhere and got a D. So still had to resit it. Good to know the marking has been shambolic since the early 00s!

Modular exams suck. They encourage cramming, never-ending assessment anxiety and fatigue, and curriculum narrowing.

@lollydaffs @adamboxer1 I certainly did one of my exams at least twice, completely failing the first time. We did another one 'for a practice run' and then had to pay to resit it. It feels like it may have been a money-spinner for exam boards too...

@JoBullen1 @adamboxer1 I sat a module of my A level 3 times. On attempt 3 (summer of year 13) I scored 85/90. Would have been so much better if I’d have just been given more time to study and understand the text and exam technique, rather than trying to ‘get it out of the way’ in year 12!

@adamboxer1 In English, I found them especially weird. When a markscheme credits well thought out ideas and arguments, having someone complete the assessment for it in Jan of Yr10 as opposed to June of Yr11 was bizarre.

New pet peeve: 'this connotes' in literature essays when it doesn't. It just shows or demonstrates. Also it's ugly. I also dislike 'connoting'. It's a symptom of a wider issue of linguistics terminology being co-opted into GCSE lit with little understanding.
