A new chapter begins this September. Literally… This morning, I opened chapter one of the first textbook for the Masters in Psychological Sciences course I’m excited to begin at Brunel University London. If someone told me at 16 I’d end up doing a science degree - especially one with a heavy emphasis on statistics - I’d have told them they were mad! I couldn’t wait to drop science and maths after my GCSEs and remember telling my careers advisor that I just wanted to do something creative. This led me to a degree in marketing and eventually the field of communications where there are lots of opportunities to make use of my creative flair. But, a big part of my 20+ year communication career has been working with people. The part I love the most is getting to truly understand people and help them stand out and communicate in their original way. I’ve seen the massive impact that is created when people move away from cookie-cutter models, stop copying what other people are doing, and stop being held back by other people’s expectations. Everyone is best when they find their original way and master that. Over the years, I’ve become more and more passionate about embracing originality which is why, last year I launched the @origineurs podcast to share some of the insights I’ve uncovered over the last 20 years and celebrate people who are using their originality to do amazing things. As part of my mission, behind the scenes, I’ve been studying psychology for a number of years and also qualified as a certified coach. In doing this, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of both science and statistics. Great research, data, and insights are enlightening and help to best serve people. Now, I want to use my Masters programme as an opportunity to embark on a two-year study of the impact of embracing originality, all backed by science and some fascinating case studies. I’m not someone who does things 'behind closed doors' and want this to be an open research project. By this I mean that I would love to get people involved and use the podcast to share insights and stories with you as the project progresses to inspire you to embrace your originality too. If you're interested, I'll be sharing details via my weekly message 'The Big Ooh' when there are opportunities. I'll drop the link in the comments. I do hope you will join me!

Isn't it great when you get a good idea? 💡 I don't know about you but when I come across a brilliant insight, idea or piece of information, my brain goes 'ooh, I like that!' and it sticks with me. This 'ooh' moment tell my brain that this is important stuff that I mustn't forget and prepares these sparks to be ready to be recalled at the perfect moment. This is very different to the experience of mindlessly trudging through stuff that I know I'm probably going to forget tomorrow, next week or next year. These 'ooh' moments are vital to our growth. So, I've created something new to generate more of them and to share them with you in a fun and insightful way. 'The Big Ooh!' is a personal message that I send out every Tuesday that's designed to brighten your inbox. It gives some exclusive add-ons to the Origineurs podcast and is short but mighty - so perfect for busy people! The Big Ooh! comes to you with three great things… 💡 A fresh idea or insight. 🤔 A powerful question to ask yourself. 🏅 A simple challenge designed to elevate your week. I put a lot of thought and research into each one to make sure you get the most out of it, drawing on data, science and expert insights. So, there really is a method in the 'ooh'!
