3/ Our study shows that RUEI universities had more retracted papers in WoS/Scopus journals compared to non-RUEI universities. It seems the pressure to publish in these visible journals created incentives for questionable research practices and misconduct.

2/ The RUEI, also known as Project 5-100, aimed to boost global competitiveness by rewarding universities based on their publication counts in internationally indexed journals. 3 of 7 KPIs were related to the number of articles in journals indexed in WoS)/Scopus.

In Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan the impact of publications within both sectors are approximately the same.

In Armenia and Azerbaijan research sector produces on average higher cited publications than university sector. Whereas in Belarus, Georgia, and Moldova, universities produce publications which are on average higher cited compared to publications within research sector.

In Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, and Lithuania a great majority of publications is affiliated with uni. In Armenia, Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan research sector produce significantly larger share of output than uni. The rest of the countries are in-between two groups.

The Soviet model of research organisation included a large network of research institutes at the core. Uni. were mostly seen as educational institutions. Following the dissolution of the SU, countries have approached the organisational development of HE and research differently.

The results show that there are no harmless forms of sexism. Both hostile and benevolent sexism maintain a discourse that supports violence at the level of attitudes. At the same time, hostile sexism contributes to the manifestation of aggressive behavior towards women.
