Another fun one... One of my aliases back then was Kelvin, and someone that knew me leaked it to the media (never found out who). There happened to be a very large bank data hack after I published an article on how to steal online bank data. I remember the phone waking me up one morning, and it was a reporter from MSN, so I hung up. 30 minutes later the phone rang again, and it was Fox News... Legitimately I had NOTHING to do with THAT hack, but that was a fun mess to deal with. I had an incredible employer at the time, and they stood behind me 1000%, never doubted me.

@loyalmoses how do you attract so many crazies?! At least they're filtering themselves out... Really love when people make broad accusations with no proof or even examples. Oxygen thieves.

@loyalmoses That's insane—so the FBI literally flagged your account? What was the hold code for?

Fun fact... I had my phone lines wire-tapped by the FBI when I was a professional hacker 25 years ago. I called to transfer my Chicago home phone and ISDN lines from our 47th floor apartment to the 8th floor, and when they had trouble, a support rep told me there was a hold code on my lines. They were new, so they put me on hold, looked the codes up, then came back and told me that there was a federal wire-tap (I can't remember the words he used). He then laughed and expressed how he was probably not supposed to tell me that. I remember laughing, but wasn't surprised -- it was the business I was in.

@sunilnewstwitte Thanks! I was the first GSEC in the world, and there weren't many of us doing this job. It was an awesome time.

@loyalmoses In college I toured a phone company and they showed me the access point they were required to have available for wiretaps. 2 lines had something on them.

@loyalmoses Being in that business 25 years ago meant a federal wiretap wasn’t surprising but being casually told by tech support? That’s wild.

@loyalmoses The 2000s were definitely a legendary era for hacking. It was the digital 'Wild West' where everything felt possible and the rules were still in their infancy

@mchoudhary9940 It was wild back then... I had ex-colleagues calling me, only to find out later that the FBI was in the room with them, guiding them through the call. Truly a different time.

@loyalmoses is ironic how high-level federal surveillance was undone by a helpful customer service rep. Sometimes the simplest human element is the biggest glitch in the most sophisticated system. What a legendary tech-era memory

@mfreeman451 That could be it. I don't recall what the guy said, but after he said it, he explained how it got there, and then that's when he realized he probably shouldn't have told me, but he said he was new, so... LOL
