£342m lost in a single season. The biggest loss in English football history. This was the model. Ownership accepted huge financial losses and handed control to the sporting directors to build a squad that would grow in value and restore Chelsea to the top. Three years later, strip it back. How many signings are genuinely elite? Palmer. Enzo. Caicedo. Cucurella. James was already here. Estevao has barely kicked a ball. Santos has promise. That’s it. Billions committed. Record losses. And a squad still miles off where it needs to be. Losses of this scale only make sense if the people spending the money are best in class. Winstanley, Stewart, and Shields have committed crimes against Chelsea. Let’s anchor back to Behdad Eghbali’s comments. Chelsea weren’t a very well run club on the commercial or sporting side. Yeah fuck off.
The Athletic | Football@TheAthleticFC

Chelsea booked the highest pre-tax loss in English football history in the 2024-25 season, per data released today by UEFA. The European Club Finance and Investment Landscape report, issued annually by the governing body, includes the 10 clubs with the highest losses in a given season. The west London outfit topped — or bottomed — that cohort last season, but it is the scale of Chelsea’s loss which stands out. In their third full season under the ownership of a consortium headed by Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly, the club booked a €407million (£342m) pre-tax deficit. @Melo_lfc You can see the moment he sees Pickford and hesitates and by that stage he can’t finish first time with his right foot and then prob doesn’t have the confidence to go first time with his left. Then it’s too late

💣🔥🔥CRAZY NEWS: Michael Carrick’s training sessions have reportedly blown the Manchester United players’ minds. The squad is said to be hugely impressed with his methods, with tactical meetings keeping everyone on high alert. [@indykaila] Maybe Ten Hag’s & Amorim’s methods weren’t so impressive after all! 😶

@AnilKandola @ManUtd @INEOS If he had won that Europa final, then he won a trophy would your opinion change? He did a lot of good and with more time could have continued that but sacked him and been on the same merry go round since

Reluctantly, the @ManUtd fans will have to accept Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will return to the club. But what they absolutely CANNOT accept is him getting the job on a permanent basis, regardless of how the season goes. The @INEOS masterplan to ‘put the Manchester back into Manchester United’ is to hire a guy who won absolutely nothing during his time at the club as manager. It’s borderline sickening. They’ll try get Solskjaer on a permanent which they think will insulate them from criticism. Enough is enough.

@HighStatusBoss Well of course he would hope to get the job full time, wouldn’t anyone? How is he a weasel 😂 if you want a job but know someone who works there and they offered you a trial would you take it over someone more qualified? Yes you would

To be brutally honest — Ole Gunnar Solskjer first stint as United manager should have given him the label Ole Gunnar Shortcuts. I don’t have a ton of faith in Ineos — but I would be surprised if they considered OGS. With no European football — he will this spring alone be in charge of like 50% of the organized training sessions we will have in the coming 3 years if we at least qualify for the ECL. I love the man and OGS moved me to tears at times — and I know this will not be popular — but I have to call it like I see it. How did OGS change MUFC from Mourinho’s outdated compact defensive approach? From my POV — he made following mistakes: 🔺He kept playing with a striker plus two “forwards” instead of wide wingers, which basically all successful teams use nowadays. This deprived us of safe passing options in the transition game and also made us very unbalanced defensively. Why was this done? I don’t think it was a preference of OGS, but instead of putting in the work of re-developing Rashford and co to modern football — he adopted his style to accommodate the players. 🔺Our wingers had — very — relaxed roles out of possession under OGS compared to our rivals. Especially defensively — they weren’t required to track back enough. Again — was this OGS’ preference or player driven? 🔺We had no inclination to manage possession of the ball. This was mitigated by players like Herrera, Matic and Pogba who controlled the play naturally — but when they turned into Fred, McT and Bruno we turned into the circus act we still are today at times. Sure — it gave us some 5-0 victories, but always trying home run passes is no way to win games in today’s era. 🔺We can certainly discuss DDG being let go for free and Onana being brought in. Ole said that he had studied what made Guardiola successful and tried to adopt as much of it that was possible. He came to United like 3 years after Pep came to City and kicked out England’s starter in Joe Hart since he wasn’t good enough with his feet. DDG wasn’t any better than Hart. During this period — we could have sold DDG for 50-75m to a more forgiving league. This is a change that needed to be made sooner or later. As with everything else — it wasn’t dealt with and left a huge stinking pile for the manager replacing Ole. 🔺The same applies to the CBs. Mourinho left Ole with a horribly outdated crew of CBs. Nothing improved in this area under OGS. Getting Maguire — where focus was put on how he could drive the ball up pitch — was a classic example of someone trying to mimic someone else without understanding what they were doing. Putting DDG on the pitch with Lindelof and Maguire infront of him — gives you an ability to play up from the back that like is bottom 5% in the top 5 leagues in Europe. And like getting Varane was jut as clueless— Varane is the CB that plays in Maguire or Lindelof’s role next to a CB who can build up play. To leave that behind you is just not a good look at all. I was definitely not a fan of Amorim before he came in (check my posting history) nor was I ever sold on ETH. But from my POV — they did a much better job at moving the club forward than Ole did. 👉Ole might give us results. I much rather go with him than another 3-4-2-1 manager or a defensive manager. But there is work to be done to play 4-2-3-1. -We must manage the ball better. You — must — play up from the back if the opponent don’t go crazy high. -Our full backs must be able to invert more and be more diligent with the ball. -Cunha and Mbuemo must have a much more wide starting position that can help us in the build up. -Bruno must reduce the number of times he goes for the home run pass. Is Ole the guy to do this? Maresca is probably too much of a fundamentalist. I’ve said it before — I would consider Ange (as the caretaker!). His players love him and he will standup against the media. He got nothing to lose — but he won’t take short cuts.

@BernieCuddy1 @AnilKandola @ManUtd Why would he come out now and said he’s came as the manager and make himself look silly if he wasn’t appointed the manager. He was given a say in signings, academy etc. He took the job as manager. Weather or not the unveiling post said the words head coach

After hearing this, I actually feel sorry for Ruben Amorim. Yes, he’s not good enough to be @ManUtd manager, but the way INEOS have set him up to fail from day one is damning. At this point he’s begging for the sack. Just put him out his misery.

@rossweaver96 @AmorimEra @BeanymanSports I don’t think it’s either, I think he’s sick of being asked questions about Wilcox and signings like they control them all and he’s just stating that he’s the manager. He said he has a say in all transfers. He’s got half a squad and getting hounded constantly.

@lpato2 @CalimochoClub @jonmikesav8 Il stand by the fact we need to give the new regime time. And, if I am wrong then il stand here and say I was wrong. But I think a lot of fans are ignorant in regards to the state of the club and how big of a job it is to turn it around. In short I agree with you on this.

@hak_182 What u on about? They play wing back or full back but they’re not defensive full backs. How can u not understand that. Definition of a defence full back or wingback is someone that stays back more often than attack and that’s not the case here. Good night

@hak_182 @SuhailChowdhary 🙈 if someone isn’t a defensive full back, that doesn’t mean they are natural wingers. I didn’t say they were wingers. You’re not the smartest. If you were playing Kyle Walker and wan bissaka at wing back then yes I’d agree they’re defensive wingbacks. BUT they’re are not.

@CalimochoClub @andrewroyles @jonmikesav8 3 years was the plan with the manager and to progress the squad in an aim to win a title. Whatever has happened in the past, the players available tonight weren’t up to it. Amorim can’t be judged on that. People like you on here are too negative and happy for this manager cycle
