@SamCoatesSky Either the security services warned of this risk and gov ignored it, or the security services failed to spot the risk. We need to know which

@SamCoatesSky At the time of appt... It was known Epstein collected compromat, the US was in possession of some of that material, and starmer knew the relationship was 'ongoing'. That alone enough to rule him out of the US job because of the blackmail risk to mandelson leading to nat sec risk

More on the alleged "hear no evil, see no evil" attitude towards Mandelson in Keir Starmer's speech Keir Starmer said just now there were questions ahead of the Ambassador appointment about the "nature and extent of the relationship", including "whether he stayed at Epstein's premises". Starmer says the answers given were "intentionally intended to create the impression that Mandelson barely knew him". In a subsequent answer, he says he lied about the relationship. But did Mandelson specifically deny - and lie - about the fact he took a hospitality freebie from Epstein post jailing? There hasn't - quite - been answer to this question. Yet it's pretty key. Did Mandelson specifically deny the New York hospitality question, and KS accept this specific denial despite robust FT reporting? Or did Mandelson evade the specific question about his 2009 freebie, and No10 made an assumption on the basis of a broad brush characterisation by Mandelson of the limited nature of the relationship. How hard did they push on the key, specific allegation?

The pay-per-mile tax on electric cars sounds pretty complicated, to put it mildly Whereas fuel duty is paid at the pump, the electric car tax requires you to estimate your mileage for the year ahead then pay an upfront charge Here's the helpful consultation document from DfT: 'Alongside paying their VED each, under eVED motorists will be able to estimate their mileage for the year ahead, pay an upfront charge based on their estimate and spread their payment across the year, and then submit their actual mileage at the end of the year to trigger a reconciliation 'Motorists will have their mileage checked annually, typically during their MOT as is already the case, or for new cars, around their first and second registration anniversary'

Would be interesting to hear the former PM @RishiSunak take on the deal agreed with India… as Chancellor under the Johnson government he launched the joint dialogue on a “Social Security Agreement” at the UK-India Economic and Financial Dialogue in September 2021

@lrmulli I think it's that the extra step of logging in and out gives an extra buffer. I don't want it to be super easy for someone who stalked me to see my tweets, y'know? (Who knows if he'd even think to log out).

By my calculations…. Every school kid at secondary school now, and possibly some currently in Year 6, ie last year at primary school are going to get to vote at the next General Election… when Labour lower voting age to 16. Exactly how many depends when it is - probs late 28?

Hmm.... Did the PM just break rules preventing ministers from using the platform of Government to make political points during the election campaign? On the left, what Rishi Sunak said at the G7 presser. On the right, the rules according to @instituteforgov
