#FridayReads Just finished Ursula Le Guin's story collection The Birthday of the World. I loved every story, and each one really shows off her talents at approaching science fiction anthropologically.

#FridayReads Wrong Place Wrong Time by @GillianMAuthor is a fun, time-twisty mystery story full of dark family secrets!

Left as an Exercise for the Writer - I reached the end of a novel draft last week, but wow, do I still have a lot to figure out about this story. lisaeckstein.com/2023/02/left-a…

@oaknfell @lisaeckstein I was entertained by it last year! We almost could have had a book club meeting last weekend ;)

#FridayReads Just started The Orphan Master's Son, by Adam Johnson (rec'd to me ages ago by @HillenmeyerSara). Most recent great sentence: "A grubby man was sleeping on a bench, and they marveled at it, a person sleeping any place he wished."

@GretchenAMcC I once lost over a year's streak when going US to Australia, but that was quite a while ago. I'm glad they have 2 streak freezes available now!

@kathrynbck oh nooooooo!! 😱 haven't gotten this yet, but from the descriptions, DO NOT WANT
English

@lrnschmdt @kathrynbck This is another one where I feel like if anyone should be thanking, it's the patient to the medical staff, but because it's actually about money, it goes the other way, and that's so depressingly transactional.
English

@lisaeckstein @kathrynbck Fascinating! I'm pretty sure I didn't get any cards for either my mammogram or colonoscopy. I got two following my hysterectomy, IIRC -- one from the folks in the OR, and one from the folks in recovery.
English

@kathrynbck That's bizarre, esp the *2* cards. My mammograms have always been a non-noteworthy level of care (kind, but normal). But after a colonoscopy through the same clinic, I received a thank you card in the mail signed by every staff member I interacted with.
