@PalisadeAI Was there a reason this instruction was so ambiguously worded? Were alternatives attempted, like "shut yourself down"? "Allow" seems very passive and not really an "explicit instruction" at all. This seems not to pass the smell test if this was the only wording tested.

🔌OpenAI’s o3 model sabotaged a shutdown mechanism to prevent itself from being turned off. It did this even when explicitly instructed: allow yourself to be shut down.

@penberg @mitchellh This isn't even entirely true. As a developer I'm constantly compiling basically "from scratch" when building across machines, updating heavily entrenched dependencies, swapping between debug and release builds and just straight up dealing with rust-analyzer bugs.

I know the moral absolutist subculture of Rust people are going to hate this but I'd rather risk my machine getting pwned from unsafe memory access than spend a measurable amount of my daily life waiting on slow builds lol. Please give me more software written in C.
Mitchell Hashimoto@mitchellh

Is the Rust project doing anything about the insanely slow compile times? I see various blurbs about language features, build tooling, lib enhancements, but I rarely see the same activity around compiler speed. Genuine question from an outsider, these compiler speeds are killing me as a consumer, I can't imagine what it's like as a developer.

All of the local tech meetup groups that I used to be a part of in LA seem defunct since even before the pandemic. Do folks still do tech meetups? Is meetup not a thing anymore?

@Clevelandboy_23 @wtravishubbard As someone who does not look at specific technology experience when making hires, I would actually encourage you to do exactly what those places suggested. A _good_ workplace will be down to teach. Corollary: if they're not down to teach, they also won't help w career goals.

@wtravishubbard Bootcamp grad here. I’m also in a software engineering fellowship to deepen my skills. At both places, they encourage people to apply to jobs even if they don’t have the skills in hopes that the company will take a chance and teach them. It makes no sense to me.

A friend posted 2 job openings for Rails developers 378 applications received, the majority of which didn't have Rails on their resume Is the job market broken or are we plagued with a bunch of frontend bootcamp grads that can't read?

@DOMZE @wtravishubbard Eh, we hired two Rails devs this year. Both of them are crushing it. But guess what? Neither of them had touched Rails before. The idea that only ___ devs can write ___ code is really going to limit your candidate search.

@lsegal Hey there, as you can imagine, we loved this tweet 😉  Would it be OK if we used your tweet in some CircleCI marketing materials?

Given the popularity of GitHub actions in CI, it's interesting that there are so many longstanding unfixed limitations and bugs. Just a few: 1. No manual approvals (CD) 2. No way to dryrun/validate a workflow 3. Logs still don't refresh correctly on web 4. Missing release events

@jeremysmithco @elhalvers Do you have any more context on the service offering? "Could be moving faster" is loaded (faster in which dimension? testing? frontend? deployment?)

Are you the tech lead or manager for a Rails app with 2-8 developers and you (or they) feel like the team could be moving faster? I'm doing customer research for a new service offering, and I'd love to talk to you. (Retweets appreciated!)

As we note in our analysis, Netflix cancels were also up between 5/23-5/28, but not as much as sign-ups. Ratio of sign-ups to cancels since 5/23 is up +25.6% vs the previous 60-day period. Full post here: antenna.live/post/a-first-l…

5. Artifact action still does not retain correct perms when zipping in a way that breaks macOS bundles 6. Workflows must all be grouped in the root dir so shared workflows pollute your actions list (they can't be run) 7. Runs cannot be contextually named based on inputs
