I have realized that there is a downside to being overexposed. In the village, people are happy and start families with the little they have. For others, especially those from the city, good education, a mansion, a good job, and so on are still not enough to settle down. It’s like we are constantly chasing the wind; an illusion of a perfect life that, in reality, may never come to pass.

Destitute Kenyans scrambling for food in the palatial homes of corrupt politicians is the saddest thing I have seen this season. Poverty is being used as a political tool to control the masses.

Commercial activists have been loudly claiming that a little known about lady, Rose Njeri was unlawfully detained, their usual theatrics to remain relevant, but the facts paint a different picture. According to the official charge sheet, she was arrested on 30th May 2025, in connection with a serious cyber offence involving the unauthorised interference with a government computer system, specifically targeting the Finance Committee of Parliament. She developed a mass-email program that disrupted official operations, an offence clearly outlined under Section 16 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018. Far from being arbitrary, her arrest followed due process and was grounded in verifiable digital evidence.

@RobertAlai The narrative oversimplifies complex economic dynamics by focusing solely on ethnic politics, ignoring broader systemic issues in Kenya's governance and economy. Not all success in Central Kenya can be attributed to cronyism.

The Enduring Legacy of Crony Capitalism in Central Kenya The Kikuyu nation, or Central Kenya, has voiced discontent with President William Ruto's inclusive governance approach, which involves broader participation from other communities. This shift marks a departure from the past, where government business was primarily dominated by companies linked to Kikuyu elites. What has often been celebrated as the entrepreneurial prowess of Kikuyu elites is, in reality, crony capitalism—the manipulation of state power to misappropriate public funds through entities posing as legitimate businesses. Several examples highlight this systemic exploitation: Equity Bank’s Strategic Expansion During President Mwai Kibaki’s tenure, Equity Bank became the principal banker for the Kenyan government and its institutions and leveraged the provincial administration to grow its client base. Chiefs across the country were instructed during barazas to promote Equity Bank as the gateway to affordable loans. This directive, spearheaded by influential figures like John Michuki, Francis Muthaura, and Chris Murungaru, entrenched Equity Bank in Kenyan society. The bank also initiated a scholarship program, purportedly sponsoring students to prestigious universities in the USA and UK. However, Equity merely linked students to colleges that allocated quotas for African students. These colleges covered the costs, leaving Equity to claim credit without financial contribution. Sadly, many students only discovered the harsh realities of this arrangement upon arrival overseas. Brookside Dairy Monopoly The dairy industry exemplifies the stifling effects of monopolistic practices. Brookside Dairy, owned by the Kenyatta family, dominates nearly half the market, having acquired competitors like Buzeki, Ilara, Delamere, and Tuzo. Under President Uhuru Kenyatta, the milk price for consumers surged by 67% (from KSh 36 to KSh 60 per half-litre), while farmers’ earnings stagnated at KSh 35 per litre. This imbalance increased Brookside’s gross margin by 130% and bolstered the Kenyatta family’s annual turnover from KSh 13 billion to KSh 22 billion. Procurement Scandals and Influence Peddling Instances of exploitation by individuals close to power are rampant. The president’s sister and cousin were implicated in abusing procurement opportunities meant for disadvantaged groups. Their company, registered after Kenyatta took office, supplied a wide range of products and services to government entities, leveraging connections for profit. Similarly, Koto Housing, associated with Kenyatta’s sister, capitalized on police housing projects, a key component of Kenyatta’s “Big Four” agenda. The family later expanded this business into a larger EPS building company, C-MAX, prominently marketing affordable housing as a product line. Centum Investment’s Windfall Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria’s decision to move his ministry’s offices to Chris Kirubi’s Two Rivers Mall raised eyebrows. More significantly, Kuria gazetted the mall as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), rescuing Centum Investment from financial turmoil. The declaration turned a KSh 2 billion loss into a KSh 2.5 billion profit for Centum in the financial year ending March 2024. Banking and Financial Manipulation The Kenyatta family’s CBA Bank and the Ndegwa family’s NIC merged to form NCBA, a tier-one lender. The merger, facilitated by Treasury CS Henry Rotich, avoided paying KSh 400 million in stamp duty. NCBA also cemented its dominance in asset financing, exploiting its relationship with Safaricom to manage M-Pesa’s suspense accounts. Similarly, John Ngumi—dubbed a celebrated investment banker—channelled KSh 6 billion of public funds to Helios Investment Fund, earning KSh 400 million in advisory fees. Insurance Industry Exploitation Insurance companies owned by Kikuyu elites thrived during Kibaki’s presidency. Firms like Eagle Brokers, AIG, and CIC Insurance enjoyed preferential treatment and secured lucrative government contracts. Teachers and police officers were coerced into using Aon Minet, and key shareholders from the Kikuyu community reap exorbitant profits. Legacy of Scandals The NYS scandal, among others, epitomizes the misuse of public funds by Kikuyu-linked officials and businessmen. Entities involved in the heist frequently trace their roots to Central Kenya, illustrating a pattern of systemic exploitation. Conclusion The entrenched crony capitalism in Central Kenya highlights the profound impact of state-enabled monopolies and corruption. President Ruto’s shift toward inclusivity may disrupt these entrenched interests, but the challenge remains immense. The nation must dismantle these exploitative systems to foster equitable growth and true national unity.

What has happened in Narok today is most unfortunate. There have been needless deaths and injury arising out of a situation that was clearly mishandled. Both the security forces and the community must now exercise maximum restraint to avoid any further bloodshed. I have spoken to the area Senator and our local Party leadership to assist in ensuring this.

Patients from Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) stormed the office of Health CS Deborah Barasa over frustrations from SHA. The patients, most of the detained over bills because SHA is not working couldn't take it anymore. Deborah almost jumped through the window were it not for the window rails... She was forced to issue a statement as they watched. Bwana, Kenyans are tired. Khabusie!
