@nobodyknows2322 I would say this is fairly accurate, these professions also tend to be overrepresented in politics, hence the regulatory capture. And yes, in its brightest moments the EU serves as a collective intervention against member states most hare-brained ideas.

2/ Germany has a producerist guild mentality which allows "liberal professions" (lawyers, notaries, "chimney inspectors" etc.) to capture regulators, eliminate competition, and extract rents from the hapless consumer. EU should end this, but then again, Germany's its #1 donor.
