@lu_pitsu

Hobby-ist doodler, but better at procrastinating & enjoying anime. I like art, history and philosophy, and I'm bad at all of 'em. I can do code, and I hate it.

@IGN I'm gonna be that person that says to read the manga. the anime is a watered down version of the source material

@lu_pitsu Manga Artists have been using AI to enhance their art for a while now Kengan franchise mangaka Daromeon is very open about it

@p9cker_girl One thought on 3), artists "CAN" enhance their work with AI but... should they? I disagree, especially if you pay for that artwork. The clients ought to pay for the work actually being done, not 3rd party commissioning an AI-hosting company (even if only to do the final render)

@p9cker_girl I definitely agree here with these points. AI is a tool and the results depend on the users and if they insert politics. And, as for 2), I agree again - just typing prompts does not mean one's an artist. It's commissioning a piece of software and claiming authorship.

@Grummz Just because "unhinged leftists artists" hate AI, does not make AI inherently good, though. Or hating AI, bad. It's sort of an Ad hominem fallacy, I would propose. However, HOW one hates is also relevant here. And "unhinged" people are... not very hinged. Be civil, even in hate.

@TonalWeaver @bspinef This may be good advice, as it addresses burnout. But please account for the energy and time needed for any side job. You risk getting sidetracked and falling behind on what you want to achieve with your art 😓

@bspinef The image is cute, but the message is worrisome 😞. Could you try for a job in the industry? Especially with your portfolio? Or maybe comissions?

@zmokkyy @ShockingLogic @Pirat_Nation Because they're preaching and using development time and money that could be used to develop things I like. And, most of the time, they're using franchises people already like. Like Star Wars, Star Trek and the like.

Former Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan calls out gaming’s “nerd baby rage” grifters "If a game comes out and you don't want to play it—and you've never even played it—shut the f**k up. No one cares. We don't need to hear that you're not into it."

@Doncha_Ngo @Pirat_Nation Exactly - and thank you for providing the examples, too. Had Jeff Kaplan been more civil in his messaging, I may have been persuaded to discredit these kind kinds of reviews. But judging from his latter sentence, it does seem he focuses solely on the negative views.

@lu_pitsu @Pirat_Nation Arguably a much worse risk, too. Look at how often film studios learn the wrong lessons when people show up to watch a bad film, then make a spat of films to cater to this new audience that doesn't really exist and usually lose a ton of money.

@danny_botta @Pirat_Nation I agree with you regarding the specific audience that Jeff is referring to. But I think that not playing (or not intending to try) can still link to an opinion that may be valid. And the devs cannot validate it unless that opinion is declared and triaged somewhere.

@lu_pitsu @Pirat_Nation I don’t disagree with you. I think people can an outward opinion on something without trying it. I think it’s those who never had intention of trying it that he is describing. At least that’s how I interpreted what he was saying. I could be wrong.

@danny_botta @Pirat_Nation You mentioning "bandwagon" does brong a great point, since strongly and negatively impact public discourse. But! Should my voice ONLY matter AFTER playing their game? It doesn't necessarily mean that my opinion IS relevant, but context and dev intent can decide that afterwards.

@CapnKibs Exactly! Kaplan's statement is more akin to a childish tantrum over people not liking the developers' work. Opinions and reviews should be judged based on their relevance, of course. Selectively and insultingly discrediting opinions is the wrong way of doing it.

This is a very bad view to have as a developer, overly antagonistic, and shows a lack of self-control. Definitely a go touch some grass moment and apologize for that statement. Not that I expect that sort of maturity from the industry "professionals," but that rhetoric is a bad line of thinking for one to have of their potential gamers.

@danny_botta @Pirat_Nation Maybe I am thinking in too-large-a-scope here, but assume I am deciding whether I care about a game straight from the trailer (eg: Horizon Hunters Gathering). I saw it, I hated it (esp when compared to Horizon Steel Frontiers). I won't play it. Is my view suddenly irrelevant?

@lu_pitsu @Pirat_Nation I think your are missing what he is saying. There are tons of people who would have never played regardless. But they jump on the bandwagon of hating on the game as a grift. So of course a developer wouldn’t care if it’s not the opinion of a genuine potential consumer.

@zmokkyy @Pirat_Nation Think about the recent gaming flops as examples: if people DON'T play them and/or actively dislike their concepts, should that NOT tell the devs anything at all?

@zmokkyy @Pirat_Nation I understand it clearly, but it feels like Kaplan's trying to discredit opinions he doesn't like. These are still a venue for devs to gauge the public's views. If a company I like makes a game that doesn't appeal to me, (ex: from trailers), should I not voice my opinion?
