UPDATE:Today, Linda Reynolds' lawyers tried to subpoena me - another survivor - in the defamation matter. They told the court they had learned through Saxon Mullins' subpoena that I had drafted a fundraiser for Britt Higgins (yes, my involvement was already publicly disclosed)🧵

@lucylockit_ I have a complex gender identity linked to Hindu culture but present as male. It’s nothing to me if people assume my gender based on my presentation: if they say “the one with long hair” that’s not different than “the guy over there”. They’re correct descriptions of my exterior.

I went to Chadstone shopping centre for the first time in years and was met with “HI LADIES” more times than I could count. I am not a lady. I’m non-binary. But I couldn’t find the strength or the words to say so and left feeling small. Any ideas about what I could have said?

@lucylockit_ being short statured i get stuff similar to this a lot, im probably the wrong person to ask this, i dont bother saying anything even when i should usually go with a sarcastic smile or sarcastic HA HA, it does get tedious though, and i can understand how you feel lucy, if its kids

@propertyofKJ I guess it's so dependent on the mood, audience and what you feel comfortable with individually. In this case, I don't even think that the people doling out the gendered greetings would have even understood why I was being snarky!

(Also teachers too - I hear so much alienating language in schools and a small culture shift here would literally be a life-saver)

In saying nothing, I’m now just holding heartache every other gender-diverse person who goes to a shopping centre anywhere. Maybe I’m hoping that if you work in retail or hospo and see this, it could be a gentle nudge to educate yourself and those around you 💭💗
