I’ve been in touch with Jewish community leaders this morning and will continue to do so throughout the day.

Labour are cracking down on waste criminals.
Forcing fly tippers to clean up our streets and penalty points on their driving licences, to arrests and custodial sentences for serious and organised criminals.

Labour governments lift children out of poverty. 450,000 children will benefit from our choice to scrap the two child benefit cap, with those with the broadest shoulders paying a fairer share to cover the cost.
This failed Tory experiment has punished innocent children and cost us all in lost opportunity and lower life chances. Labour is putting our values into action lifting children out of poverty. Reform and the Tories would reinstate the cap and push children back below the poverty line.

I am thrilled that the Manchester Digital Campus has been confirmed by the Government today.
This is fantastic news for our city and will create over 9,000 jobs and a new city centre park that will bring the derelict former Ancoats retail park brought back to life.
Today’s £310million investment shows how the Labour government is working with Labour locally, delivering for Manchester, helping to create good jobs for local people and raise living standards in the city.

I thought better of you tbh. Your colleague tried to start a hateful pile-on by sharing footage of the Mayor of London and ordinary Londoners practicing his faith in open view. You justify it by bringing up the Islamic extremism of others. (We all condemn Islamic extremism including the Mayor.) Look up the definition of prejudice.

When you say “together”, Lucy, where are all the women? I can only see a handful at best. For a party that prides itself on equality and quotas for just about everything, why aren’t you speaking up about this? And when you say “extreme” - don’t you recognise that amongst the vast majority of decent, moderate Muslims there is a hardcore element of extremists who believe that Muslims should live separately from the rest of UK society and coerce them to do so? If not, do read the book Among the Mosques by @Ed_Husain - it should shock you. @NJ_Timothy

Too many are too polite to say this. But mass ritual prayer in public places is an act of domination. The adhan - which declares there is no god but allah and Muhammad is his messenger - is, when called in a public place, a declaration of domination. Perform these rituals in mosques if you wish. But they are not welcome in our public places and shared institutions. And given their explicit repudiation of Christianity they certainly do not belong in our churches and cathedrals. I am not suggesting everybody at Trafalgar Square last night is an Islamist. But the domination of public places is straight from the Islamist playbook. Trafalgar Square belongs to all of us. It is a national memorial to our independence and our salvation. Last night was not like a televised football match or a St Patrick’s Day celebration. It was an act of domination and therefore division. It shouldn’t happen again.

Very sorry to hear of Phil Woolas’s passing. Phil was a big character in the Labour family, and in Greater Manchester, for many years. He was Labour through and through. My thoughts are with his family - Tracey, Josh and Jed - at this sad time.
