What US city has the largest gap between national perception and reality?
My answer: Detroit
Everyone seems to think it’s a run down hell hole w nothing but boarded up buildings.
In reality:
> Completely rejuvenated downtown w businesses, residential, restaurants, & nice sports venues – Ford Field (Lions), Comerica Park (Tigers), Little Caesars Arena (Pistons & Red Wings)
> One of the best airports in the country – Delta hub w direct flights all over the world
> Tons of history, culture, and classic architecture
> Diversifying economy beyond auto into tech, medical, etc.
> People are genuinely nice but also super tough & resilient
Of course it’s not all unicorns and rainbows. While some parts of the city are making a comeback, others are being left behind.
There’s crime, traffic and all the other things most big cities battle.
But if Detroit has a national reputation of 1/10, in actuality I think it’s more like 7/10.

After 9/11, NATO's Article 5 was invoked for the first (and only) time ever by the United States.
Troops from Denmark, the UK, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, Spain, Poland, Norway, Romania, Turkey, New Zealand, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Finland, and many others joined the fight in Afghanistan.
More than one thousand of these soldiers paid the ultimate price.
And how does the US respond to this? By threatening to take over Greenland.

The anti-vax movement is going to go down in history as one of the most sad, bizarre, and destructive social contagions of modern times.

🚨 NEW: One of the largest COVID-19 vaccine studies ever (28 MILLION people in France) just dropped. Results? • 74% lower risk of death from severe COVID-19 • 25% lower risk of all-cause mortality • No increase in 4-year mortality • Vaccinated people had lower risk of death from any cause. In short: mRNA vaccines weren’t just safe — they were protective across the board. 🔥📉

@Ron15705099 @WHFrontline So you eat pizza, fries, sandwiches and burgers with a knife and fork? Weird!
English

@WHFrontline Savages eat with their hands. Educated species learned to use utensils to separate themselves from the animal kingdom.

@Daytobehappy This is horrific in every imaginable way, and I am so sorry for your pain, but I have literally no idea what point you're trying to make? You need to spell out what you're trying to say, for real.

24 years after 9/11 and they haven't been able to identify any part of my mother because nothing probably exists after she went down 86 floors in the South Tower. This is all I have namely an urn given to 9/11 families with dust and ashes from Ground Zero and tonight New York voted in Mamdani!

@bald_man12 @WarMonitor3 The attacker could have had a gun and killed 10 people before the police arrived. What do you not understand?
English

@WarMonitor3 yep, but if someone there had a gun, well, just saying.
English

@WarMonitor3 Russia has barely seized a fraction of Ukraine in 3 and a half years - empty and pathetic threats as always from the aggressor.

⚠️TYLENOL & AUTISM—RFK Jr and Trump are wrong—the largest & best study in the world in 2.5 MILLION KIDS—found no increased autism risk with acetaminophen (aka paracetamol, Tylenol) use by the mother during pregnancy. A crude unadjusted analysis found only a preliminary 5% risk, but once you adjust for family by matching using sibling controls (who didn’t get autism), the even tiny 5% risk vaporizes to 0% 📉. (Fun fact: I used to do drug safety epidemiology and have been whistleblower against big pharma when their drugs were dangerous—so I know a few things about drug safety data). Thread 🧵.

In the last few years we've seen:
- The plot to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer
- The Storming of the Capitol and pipe bombs left at the RNC and DNC
- The break-in to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and the brutal on Paul Pelosi
- Multiple assassination attempts against Trump
- The assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and the shooting of on State Senator John Hoffman and his wife
- Luigi Mangione's assassination of Brian Thompson
- The assassination of Charlie Kirk
Political violence is contagious. It is spreading. It is not confined to one side or belief system. It should terrify us all.
The foundation of a free society is the ability to participate in it without fear of violence. Political violence is always an attack against us all. You have to be so blind not to see that.
