Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home retweetledi

This info from @MentalHealthAm is important for policymakers. (Ahem, #lalege)
Louisiana being ranked 49th in this measure is no surprise as I witness youth in need of continuing their mental health services get denied over & over by the six Healthy Louisiana plans. Once a child makes some progress their Medicaid plan prematurely discharges them. Even after 8 years of managing this vulnerable population, Louisiana’s Medicaid plans fail to individualize care in favor of sweeping one size fits all approaches.
The behavioral health spectrum poses the greatest challenge for MCO systems because these individuals often require a broad spectrum of services at varying levels of intensity for extended periods. Yet, MCO approaches are directed at controlling service utilization and containing costs.
With the percentage of Louisianans with serious mental illness outpacing the US and our southern neighbors, it is time for something different. It’s time for Louisiana to prioritize mental health and create a plan just for them. #mentalhealthmatters #mhlouisiana
