The EFF’s Statement Calling for the Immediate Removal of Gayton McKenzie as Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture for his History of Hateful, Racist Remarks -It is also the height of hypocrisy for McKenzie to demand accountability from others when he himself harbours the same hateful attitudes. Recently, when podcasters on “Open Chats” made offensive remarks about Coloured people — calling them “incestuous” and “crazy” — McKenzie expressed outrage, opened a case against them, and demanded a public apology. While he was right to be offended by prejudice directed at his community, this double standard strips him of any moral or ethical standing to lead on issues of non-racialism and social cohesion.

@Privilegednot I never said that. What I’m saying that as someone who is not black and has never been discriminated because of being black, it’s insensitive and wrong of you to try and silence me not having experiences what it’s like.

Can we please talk about how much racism there is in “Model C” school/ predominantly white schools??? Let me tell you about some of the things I went through in my high school life at St Cyprian’s school in Cape Town (A thread). Please retweet❤️

@Privilegednot Any logical person knows that there are various forms of discrimination. For example, you could be discriminated against because you are female and it’s wrong for a male person to try and silence you because they cannot relate to your circumstances.

@lunxti Really? You don’t think that regardless of the colour of your skin people are discriminated against and made to feel uncomfortable in either a work or school situation?? Oh Lordy me! How naive people are!!!

@Privilegednot You’ll never be hated/ discriminated against for being black because you are a white person so when a black person complains and raise an issue about black discrimination it’s insensitive for you to make a comment dismissing that.

@NeoVNeo I was on a scholarship and had a contract for 5 years. Also how would leaving the school solve the problem? If I left the school would there be changes in the system so that it accommodates all races and treat them all fairly?

@Privilegednot I know criticism and I know discrimination and racism. Being treated that way is inhale and is not “life” … this is why we have human rights, why democracies are developed. I will not let you silence me for speaking about unjust treatment.

@Privilegednot And yet again, I don’t expect you to understand because you’ll never be discriminated for being black because you are a white person. You will never understand what it’s like. So if it makes you sleep at night allow me to whine about the “criticism” I experienced.

@lunxti You go right ahead dear… have your say and hopefully it will make you feel better! But changing schools instead of being a martyr would have been a better option! Too many people mistaking criticism for racism all over the world… pity me…

@Privilegednot I have and I won’t stop until there’s change. Changing schools would be a better option for you (that your opinion and you stick with it). If icons like Steve Biko, Chris Hani etc… never resisted the Apartheid regime and ran away instead there would never be a democratic SA.

@Privilegednot I choose not to run away from problems. Many people go through what I’ve went through. What St Cyprian’s school is doing is wrong, unjust and disgusting

@lunxti Sweetie why didn’t you leave the school and go elsewhere where you would be more comfortable. I know it’s hard adhering ethos and ideologies that are foreign to you but that’s life! Don’t confuse criticism with racism! I keep wondering why people stay in places they don’t fit…🤷‍♀️

@lunxti Now that we're in these comments, can we please collectively start a movement against this, because it's happening everywhere in this so-called "Democracy" of South Africa.

This is one person’s story, and it is not isolated. Black students pay for the education we receive at these schools with much more than money. So many of us are scarred in ways we will never heal from.

@Stylecandii @lunxti What they become at the end? We can’t view education by looking at Maths content in isolation, we must also question if it empowers & equip learners to become role players in society, make people know themselves, relate with the world positively, etc.

@Stylecandii @lunxti Dr Lushaba always said good education & racism can’t coexist & he’s right. The idea that these schools are “racist but have good education” is very narrow, what kind of good education that intrinsically alienates people from themselves? Forces black kids to acculturate?
