During my time in Mexico last year, I saw how crucial this application was for migrants to avoid backlogs and danger in border cities. As a first-gen Latina and advocate, my heart breaks for these children and families. They deserve so much more.

The Trump administration has shut down the CBP One app for migrants. The Biden-era process allowed nearly 1 million migrants to enter the US at legal border crossings. We reported that an estimated 270,000 migrants are waiting in Mexico, hoping to use the app to enter the US.

Roughly 270,000 people have been waiting patiently in Mexico to win the appointment lottery. With the process down, it remains to be seen what they will do. Some may go home, some may pay smugglers and trying to enter that way, others may just wait to see what happens next.

BREAKING: CBP One, the app that allowed migrants to enter at ports of entry, is down. Existing appointments are cancelled, per CBP. Big news for the border. More than 1,000 migrants each day entered this way.

The people losing CBP One appointments were patiently waiting in Mexico & complying with a smart process that could modernize asylum. Eliminating CBPOne is not only deeply unfair to the human beings who were following the rules, but this move will destabilize the border.

Migrants in Ciudad Juárez who were waiting for their 1 pm CBP1 parole appointments learned 20 minutes ago that the app has shut down & those appointments are no longer valid.

"The time is always right to do what is right." - Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. King, a beacon of hope and justice who tirelessly fought for the rights of marginalized communities. His dream of equality and justice inspires us to continue our mission: to ensure every child, regardless of where they come from, has a healthy start, the opportunity to learn, and protection from harm. #MLKDay

Border communities are joyful, embracing and full of hope. When we only pair the word #border with “crisis,” “chaos,” “problem,” or “security,” we fail to acknowledge the reality of the borderlands, stigmatize entire communities, and obscure the needs of people on the move.

Our hearts are with the families and community at Apalachee High School. Back to school should mean back to learning, playing and growing. Not back to a fear of gun violence. Our leaders need take action to end the scourge of gun violence our children face every day.

This long overdue humanitarian pause allows us to support the polio vaccination campaign in #Gaza, more than 1,800 children on day 1 alone. Lifesaving work, which we would like to do much, much more of. Definitive ceasefire now.

Let's face it: America's child care system is broken. Half of families live in a child care desert and the cost of high quality child care is an average of $12,000 per kid per year. It's time our leaders gave this crisis the attention it deserves.

Reminder: seeking asylum is a human right. Restricting asylum puts children at immediate risk. It will force children to either remain in dangerous conditions or force families to separate so their children can enter the U.S. alone. #Debates2024

We're horrified at yet another attack on a UN-run school in Gaza that has killed dozens, including children. This is a never-ending loop of killing, condemnations and inaction. Children and families are paying the heaviest price. We need a definitive ceasefire now.

Today @POTUS announced an executive order to increase asylum restrictions, putting children at immediate risk. Children and families deserve to have a fair and just opportunity to seek asylum at the U.S. border. Read our statement: bit.ly/3RfxKd7
